Yona Lead

The Francis Winspear Centre for Music is seeking a dynamic individual for a YONA Lead & Musical Creativity Associate role. We are looking for an employee that is excited to be part of our music-centered, community-driven organization for this for this 10-month contract full-time position.

The Youth Orchestra of Northern Alberta (YONA-Sistema) program strives to have a lasting positive community impact by providing free music-centered programming for youth in Northern Alberta’s priority neighborhoods. **Job Summary**:
The YONA-Sistema Lead & Musical Creativity Associate plays a key role to enrich the lives of Edmontonians by making music accessible and relevant through learning programs with a focus on YONA in a way that builds off the strengths of participants, families, and communities, in an inclusive, responsive, and respectful way.

This position requires the ability to work flexible hours to work until 6:30 PM on weekdays and on occasional weekends to meet the needs of the YONA program and Musical Creativity concerts/programming.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Oversee the operations of the 5 YONA sites and ensure the coordination of the YONA-Sistema program
- Train, support, and supervise YONA Site Managers and YONA program volunteers
- Advocate for the wellbeing of YONA students and their families
- Provide communication and advocacy to keep staff at the Winspear Centre up to date on YONA activities
- Maintain communication with families and partners
- Model the YONA Way
- Support strategic directions of YONA, organize YONA orientation, and professional development in consultation with YONA leadership team
- Support spring and winter Musical Creativity youth camps
- Assist with Musical Creativity initiatives

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary Diploma or Degree preferably in music, education, or a related field, or relevant work experience
- Experience as a supervisor
- Experience working in an environment that is fast paced and working with diverse families
- Experience teaching music to youth
- Be physically able to lift up to 20 pounds
- Valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and the ability to commute between sites is required
- Knowledge of community outreach resources
