**Position overview**:Capilano Golf and Country Club is looking to hire an enthusiastic, hardworking and detail orientated person to manage the approximate 20,000 trees spread over the 165-acre property. This is a unique career opportunity for longevity in the arboriculture industry, in a golf course environment.

**What you will learn**:This is an outstanding opportunity for someone who is in the arboriculture industry, who is interested in and wants a career in forest management. The responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

- **Manage the vast inventory of trees** on the golf course with an organized management system.
- **Hazard tree assessment - **learn to monitor and assess the magnificent and enormous Pacific Northwest trees, cultivating an ongoing list of hazard tree removals. Conduct ongoing forest and tree line health assessments identifying trees that may be hazardous to homes, people or golf course assets to produce an annual hazardous tree removal plan.
- **Coordinate contractors **while they are on-site from initial contact to supervision and quality control, from hazard tree removal and stump grinding to larger capital work.
- **Develop, implement, and modify management programs**for all trees on the property using and developing the club’s **Tree Management Plan** - a document used to protect and manage the vital resource that are the trees on the golf course.
- **Take responsibility **for planning, coordinating and executing a wide variety of arboricultural tasks as they relate to ongoing tree health assessments, removals, planting, preservation and maintenance.
- **Lead and educate a small team** of support staff and work directly with the Course and Grounds leadership team in the prioritization, scheduling and communication of all arboriculture activities.
- **Balanced work environment **with a mixture of physical and managerialtasks,contributing to a career path with longevity in the industry.
- **Develop, maintain and communicate** a complete set of records as it relates to trees on or impacting the golf course property.
- Perform all arboriculture work to a high standard and in a timely and efficient manner, while ensuring the safe use of equipment, machinery, and materials protecting all personnel, members and the golf course.
- **Assist in communicating tree health issues** with the membership and the neighboring community.
- Be available to participate in other (infrequent) golf course maintenance practices as required.
- Undertake regular and appropriate maintenance of all arboriculture equipment (chainsaws, climbing equipment etc.)

**What we are looking for**:

- Someone who is passionate about learning and doing things properly, and who is hardworking in a safe manner.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a field related to arboriculture or forestry.
- Previous arboriculture experience is required through education and/or work experience.
- ISA certification preferred, or if not, the desire to attain this certification. Support can be given to someone looking to start/complete journey to be an ISA certified arborist.
- Climbing experience is an asset but is not a requirement.
- Someone who can work alone and, in a team, and someone who can thrive with responsibility.
- Someone who is comfortable using heavy equipment (skid steer, excavator, chipper, tractor) is an asset.

**Compensation**: $27.74 / hour starting wage. Extended health benefits are included. All PPE, uniform, work boots, gloves and arborist related equipment are supplied by the club.

**Work environment and additional benefits include**:

- A clean, organized Administrative Building (lunchroom, heated mudroom, locker rooms with showers) built in 2011.
- A top 10 private golf course in Canada (playing privileges included at the discretion of the Course Superintendent).
- Located in West Vancouver, 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver, with excellent access to the North Shore Mountain Range for summer and winter activities.
- Support with training and professional development.
- Relevant association memberships (ISA and PNW-ISA) and select conferences as mutually arranged.

- Schedule is year round, 40hrs/week, Monday-Friday, 6am-2:15pm in the summer. Flexibility with this schedule can be discussed.
