**1. Organization Overview**
The Moncton Muslim Association (MMA) is the central Islamic organization serving the growing and diverse Muslim community of Moncton and surrounding areas in New Brunswick.
Our mission is to provide spiritual guidance, promote Islamic education, foster community harmony, and serve as a beacon of faith and service.
We operate a Masjid and community center that is a hub for worship, learning, and social activities. We are seeking a passionate and visionary Imam to lead our community in its next phase of growth.
**2. Position Summary**
The Imam will serve as the spiritual leader and primary religious authority for the MMA. This is a multifaceted role requiring a balance of religious scholarship, community engagement, administrative skill, and pastoral care.
**3. Key Responsibilities**
**A. Spiritual Leadership & Worship (Salah)**
- Lead the five daily prayers, Jumu’ah (Friday) prayers, Taraweeh, Eid prayers, and other Islamic religious services.
- Deliver engaging, relevant, and well-prepared Khutbahs (sermons) in both English and Arabic, with clarity and wisdom, addressing contemporary issues alongside timeless Islamic teachings.
- Provide spiritual counseling, guidance, and support to community members (e.g., marriage, family, and personal issues).
- Perform Islamic rites and ceremonies, including Nikah (marriage ceremonies), Janazah (funeral prayers), Aqeeqah, and newborn blessings.
**B. Islamic Education & Development**
- Develop and implement a comprehensive educational vision and curriculum for all age groups.
- Teach and oversee classes on Quranic studies (Tajweed, Tafsir), Seerah, Fiqh, Aqeedah, Arabic lessons, and Islamic ethics.
- Establish and lead programs for specific demographics: engaging youth programs, sisters’ circles, new Muslim support groups, and family workshops.
- Provide Fatwa and religious rulings based on authentic sources, adhering to a mainstream, moderate understanding of Islam.
**C. Community Engagement & Outreach (Dawah)**
- Act as the primary public face of the MMA and the Muslim community in Moncton.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with interfaith groups, government officials, law enforcement, media, and other community organizations.
- Represent the MMA at public events, interfaith dialogues, and civic ceremonies.
- Develop and execute outreach initiatives to educate the wider public about Islam and foster mutual understanding and cooperation.
- Proactively engage with community members to understand their needs and strengthen community bonds.
**D. Administrative & Operational Duties**
- Work closely with the MMA Executive Committee to develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and budgets.
- Provide guidance on the religious aspects of Masjid operations and management.
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteers for various community programs and events.
- Lead and assist in fundraising initiatives and donor relations for the sustainability and growth of the MMA.
**4. Qualifications & Requirements**
**Essential**:
- **Education**: A recognized bachelor’s degree in Islamic studies, Shariah, or a related field from an accredited Islamic university or institution. Equivalent Ijazahs and traditional scholarly training will be seriously considered. Post graduate certificates will be a plus.
- **Knowledge**: Deep and profound knowledge of the Quran, Sunnah, Fiqh (Jurisprudence), Aqeedah (Creed), and Seerah. Proficiency in Islamic rulings for contemporary issues.
- **Language Skills**: Fluency in **English** is mandatory. Proficiency in **Arabic** is required for Quranic recitation and classical text comprehension.
- **Experience**: Proven experience (minimum 3-5 years) as full Imam, Assistant Imam, or Islamic Educator in a North American or similar Western context.
- **Personal Skills**: Exemplary moral character, integrity, and adherence to Islamic principles. Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and communication skills. Demonstrated empathy, patience, and conflict-resolution abilities.
**Highly Desirable**:
- Fluency or working proficiency in **French** (given the linguistic context of New Brunswick).
- Experience working with a diverse, multicultural Muslim community.
- Experience in youth mentorship and programming.
- Skills in media communication, content creation (e.g., managing social media, podcasts), and public relations.
- Basic administrative and computer skills.
