The Medical Driver/Health assistant is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting patients to and from medical appointments, clinics, and hospitals. The majority of this role will be to transport community members from our remote community, near Armstrong, Ontario, in to Thunder Bay for appointments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring access to healthcare services for Indigenous community members.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Patient Transportation**:

- Transport patients to and from medical appointments, clinics, and hospitals in a timely and safe manner.
- Ensure patient comfort and well-being during transportation.
- Assist patients with boarding and disembarking from the vehicle.
- Maintain accurate records of patient transportation, including pick-up and drop-off times.
- Assist with community programming as required.
- **Vehicle Maintenance**:

- Perform routine vehicle inspections to ensure safety and operability.
- Report any maintenance issues to the supervisor promptly.
- Follow all vehicle maintenance and safety guidelines.
- **Patient Safety**:

- Prioritize patient safety at all times.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
- Use appropriate safety equipment, such as seat belts and child car seats.
- Assist with emergency procedures if necessary.
- **Cultural Sensitivity**:

- Demonstrate respect for Indigenous culture and traditions.
- Be aware of and sensitive to the unique needs and experiences of Indigenous patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families.

**Qualifications**:

- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Experience driving in a variety of conditions, including rural areas.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of local roads and transportation routes.
- First aid certification preferred.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities (preferred).

**Additional Requirements**:

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment screening and background check.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects.
