**Director of Recreation**
**Minimal Qualifications Required**:
**Formal**:
- Must have post secondary diploma, degree or certificate in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, therapeutic recreation or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution.
- Or post secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that, in the reasonable opinion of the licensee, is equivalent to the diploma, degree or certificate described above
**Experience**:
- Minimum of 1 year experience in Long Term Care is preferred.
- Knowledge of MOHLTCH Act, 2021 & Regs. 246/22
- Knowledge of community resources.
**Personal**:
- Ability to work with people and to follow directions from others.
- Ability to work with other departments and to show flexibility in emergency situations.
- Willingness to follow company policies.
- Must be able to work accurately, quickly, and safely.
- Must be an effective team player that works well with others.
- Must be able to work and communicate effectively with long-term care Residents, Families, and external community stakeholders.

**Duties include (but are not limited to)**:
- Responsible for all aspects of resident programs including but not limited to planning activities within parameters established through policies and procedures of the Home and within guidelines of the MOHLTCH Act, 2021 & Regulations 246/22.
- Purchasing supplies and equipment to meet program requirements within established budget.
- Evaluate new and/or modified programs according to resident needs. Completes Program Descriptions.
- Organize and facilitate community outings and events.
- In collaboration with departmental staff, clearly define and have available, the recreational activities, programs and services available to residents, their representatives and others who are interested.
- Facilitate and maintain partnerships with community organizations.
- Ensure that each resident has the opportunity to participate fully within their abilities to plan, initiate, facilitate and participate in their own social, recreational and educational opportunities within the Home and in the community.
- Plan for and ensure resources and services are appropriately sourced to provide the services required and manage these services effectively.
- Oversees completion of resident assessments and establish goals and interventions based on the residents’ identified needs and choices.
- Develops a comprehensive Plan of Care in collaboration with interdisciplinary team, including resident and family.
- Ensures Recreation Aides and Restorative Care Aides complete program attendance and other required documentation.
- Completes and distributes the Resident/ Family monthly newsletter.
- Participate in the homes Continuous Quality Improvement Program
- Support and effectively utilize volunteer resources in the provision of programs. Manages all aspects of the Volunteer Program, including but not limited to: orientation, training, evaluation, and recruitment.
- Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Participating in departmental meetings, home specific committees, and multidisciplinary care conferences.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and practices.
- Seek opportunities to collaborate with other therapy programs i.e. pet therapy, music therapy, art therapy, and to connect the home with the community.
- Maintain awareness of changes within the profession and seek continual educational opportunities.
- Develops education for department personnel and evaluates attendance, knowledge and skills.
- Responsible for the Human Resource management of the department, i.e. recruitment of appropriate personnel, scheduling, absenteeism management, and performance reviews.
- Provide education and training to department staff
- Completes annual Recreation, Volunteer and Pastoral Program evaluations
- Actively participates in RAI-MDS process
- Directly facilitates programs during regular hours in the absence of Recreation Aides
- Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Rehab Services (Occupational Therapy & Physiotherapy ):
- Manage the service contract.
- Ensure residents receive a comprehensive, timely assessment and that an appropriate plan of care is established and documented in regulation with MOHLTC Act & Regulations.
- Ensure the residents’ needs for activities of daily living equipment/supports are met and maintained safe.
- Liaise with preferred vendors for wheelchair/walker services.
