**Position Summary**
Seabird Island is committed to supporting the health and well-being of individuals and families by providing accessible, culturally responsive counseling services. We are seeking a Family Counselor to join our team, working collaboratively to enhance the emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of community members through trauma-informed support.
Under the direction of the Program Manager of Families and Wellness, the Family Counselor will provide counseling to families, youth, and children facing challenges related to addictions and family issues. Services will be delivered through one-on-one, family, group, and couples counseling, as well as healing circles. The Counselor will also facilitate community education workshops, provide referrals to residential treatment centers, and support clients at the Recovery Home. This role requires travel to Bands served by Seabird Island Health Services to ensure accessible care while fostering strong community relationships.
**This is a one-year term contract with the possibility of extension.**

**What you'll do**
**Community Engagement & Direct Support**
- Provide mental health counseling services to by Seabird Island Band and other communities.
- Facilitate sessions at the Recovery Home to support individuals in their healing journey.
- Counsel adults, youth, children, couples, and families, ensuring culturally responsive and trauma-informed care.
- Facilitate healing circles to promote emotional and spiritual well-being.
- Work to strengthen family and youth connections, fostering positive relationships.
- Provide mediation as needed, such as addressing parent-teen conflicts.
- Confront families and youth on unhealthy or unsafe behaviors while offering guidance and treatment options.
- Conduct prevention work to reduce child protection involvement by Child & Family Service Agencies.
**Crisis Intervention & Support**
- Provide immediate crisis intervention for suicide attempts, collaborating with community professionals and ensuring follow-up support.
- Offer crisis intervention services for high-risk youth.
- Guide youth toward treatment programs by providing information, completing intakes, and assisting with required documentation.
**Program Planning & Reporting**
- Develop and submit a monthly calendar detailing planned activities and time allocation.
- Provide a two-month advance calendar outlining workshops and community activities.
- Prepare and submit a pre-established work plan as requested by the supervisor.
- Assess individual and family needs within the community and make recommendations for program development.
- Maintain accurate case documentation, including assessments, client goals, service actions, and evaluations.
- Submit detailed monthly and year-end statistical reports, with monthly reports due in the first week of each month.
**Workshops & Community Outreach**
- Facilitate weekly evening workshops for youth, parents, groups, and families on key mental health topics.
- Help families develop essential skills such as communication, anger management, and life skills.
- Liaise with external agencies and internal departments to coordinate referrals and additional support services.
**Team Collaboration & Meetings**
- Actively participate in monthly Team meetings and other meetings as required by the supervisor.
- Be accessible, accountable, and responsive to community members, ensuring their mental health needs are met.
**Other Duties**
- Additional responsibilities as needed to support the community and uphold our shared values.
