**Position Summary**

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for providing entry-level support to the maintenance team by performing custodial duties, general grounds maintenance, basic building maintenance and assisting the team on more complex tasks. This position will assist with ensuring the building is functional, clean, comfortable, safe, and sanitary environment for residents, staff and visitors. The Maintenance Worker will carry out routine manual work, in and around both the interior and exterior of HHF buildings, which contributes to the esthetics and basic functionality of the properties where the work performed

**Responsibilities**
- **General Maintenance**_

Perform routine or basic maintenance and repairs in accordance with the set guidelines and specifications independently or as a team including but not limited to:

- 1._ _Building Maintenance_
- Replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, etc.
- Interior and exterior painting/touch-ups
- Measuring/cutting materials
- Lubricating/adjusting/removing squeaky doors and hinges
- Repairing windows and screens
- Making minor furniture repairs (replacement of drawer glides)
- General labour (lifting, carrying and moving materials, products, etc.)
- Other building maintenance duties as required
- 2. Grounds Maintenance_
- Perform lawn maintenance (e.g. grass cutting, etc.), irrigation, weed control, basic landscaping, etc.
- Rodent, pest and bird control, etc.
- Other grounds maintenance duties as required including: set-up/placement of holiday decorations, etc.
- 3. General/Custodial Related_
- Assist contractors to access facilities, suites and systems
- Set-up and movement of furniture (desks, chairs, tables, etc.)
- Assist with special event set-up, tear down and clean-up activities
- General litter pick-up and feces removal on and around the grounds or in the buildings
- Garbage can servicing including emptying and relining garbage cans and removing other garbage/recycling that has been set aside
- **Equipment Maintenance**_
- Maintain and repair basic/straightforward issues/problems with hand tools, motorized equipment and machinery
- Perform basic preventative maintenance and/or ensure servicing of equipment is completed regularly and/or in accordance with manufacture guidelines
- Contact suppliers/dealers for information on the basic maintenance/repair of tools and equipment
- **Administration**_
- Using the YARDI system review assigned work orders, updating required information and closing them out once work has been completed to the specifications
- Read and update resident chronological documentation in YARDI
- **Health, Safety and Environmental Stewardship**_
- Participate and contribute to the success of the overall safety program
- Support, follow and abide by all safety management systems and promote a safety culture throughout the organization
- Maintain a clean, sanitary and tidy work area at all times
- Respond to emergency situations as they arise providing appropriate follow-up and documentation as required
- Adhere to all manufacturer guidelines and safe work practices when using equipment
- Use Personal Protective Equipment and follow universal precautions
- Participate in worksite inspections, health & safety meetings and committees as required
- Contribute to the organization’s commitment to improving its impact on the environment through day-to-day operations and seeking innovative ways to be a greener organization

Undertake the performance of other assigned duties as required

**Requirements**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred
- One (1) year of previous building maintenance, grounds maintenance and/or custodial related experience is required
- Completion of a current and acceptable criminal records check for the vulnerable sector as required by the Protection for Persons in Care Act and the Accommodation Standards and Licensing Act is mandatory
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook is required
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required
- Experience working with the YARDI system or other property management software is an asset
- First Aid and CPR certification is preferred or must be attained soon after hire

**Working Conditions**
- Frequent and ongoing contact with staff, residents, contractors, etc.
- The requirement to be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform heavy manual work
- Strenuous physical activity including, but not limited to walking, standing, lifting, and bending
- Travel between HHF sites is required and the position may be required to work alone
- Work both indoors and outdoor
