Job Description Summary

The Sexual Violence Response Specialist provides crisis intervention, support, and case management for members of the UBC Community who have experienced sexual violence. The incumbent works from an intersectional feminist and trauma informed perspective to empower survivors of sexual violence by reducing the impact of trauma and secondary victimization through the coordination of support and accommodations with key campus and community stakeholders. This position supports the successful implementation of UBC s Policy No. 131, Sexual Assault and Other Sexual Misconduct by ensuring survivors can exercise autonomy and make informed decisions in a safe and supportive environment.

Organizational Status

The Sexual Violence Response Specialist reports to the Director, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, and works collaboratively as a member of a team of professionals, playing an integral role in crisis intervention, support, and case management for UBC Community members who have experienced sexual violence. The Sexual Violence Response Specialist collaborates with key campus and community stakeholders to coordinate support and accommodations for survivors of sexual violence.

Work Performed

Plays a central role in the operation of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, providing crisis intervention, support, and case management for members of the UBC Community who have experienced sexual violence, or those who are supporting survivors of sexual assault.

Provides crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and ongoing support for survivors of sexual violence.

Identifies, accesses, and coordinates appropriate academic and non-academic accommodations for survivors of sexual violence.

Provides advice, consultation, and accompaniment to campus resources including UBC Counselling Services, UBC Student Health Services, and UBC Employee and Family Assistance Program.

Provides advice, consultation, and accompaniment to local hospital, police, court and other community resources including the AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC), Vancouver Rape Relief and Women s Shelter (Rape Relief), Women Against Violence Against Women (WAVAW) and BC Society for Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse, and others.

Consults and collaborates with key campus and community stakeholders to increase safety and coordinate supports including academic and non-academic accommodations.

Facilitates and participates in case management meetings. Provide additional advice and guidance to the university staff, advisors, and/or faculty involved in the case as required.

Partners with key campus and community stakeholders to develop and implement referral and intervention protocols that; i. expedite access to support and accommodations, ii. facilitate the continuity and coordination of care and, iii. address systemic barriers in order to increase safety and support.

Provides direction and consultation on reporting, investigations, and alternative dispute resolution processes, as well as clarifying the differences between criminal process and UBC s investigatory process.

Responds to allegations regarding acts of retaliation relating to a Disclosure, Report or Investigation of sexual violence and provides information about, assistance with, and referral to the appropriate faculty, staff or student disciplinary process.

Manages accurate case records and prepares supporting documentation and reports as required.

Interprets university policy regarding sexual violence and misconduct, identifies areas for improvement, makes recommendations for change, and participates in review and revision of systems and protocols as appropriate.

Performs other duties as required.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Exercises professional judgement in the provision of sexual violence response services, and acts as a cooperative team member in the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office. Poor professional judgment or practice may create undue hardship for survivors of sexual violence and/or serious publ
