JOB PURPOSE:
The Psychologist will provide culturally appropriate and trauma-informed support to Indigenous individuals experiencing addictions. This role involves both in-shelter support and mobile outreach to connect with clients in various locations within the City of Edmonton.
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct psychological assessments to determine client needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide individual and group therapy sessions focusing on addiction recovery, mental health, and trauma.
- Collaborate with Addictions Counsellors, Social Workers, and Elders to deliver comprehensive care.
- Facilitate connections to detox and treatment programs, include Indigenous specific services.
- Organize and provide transportation for clients to access treatment and other necessary services.
- Integrate cultural practices and ceremonies into therapeutic interventions in collaboration with elders.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation.
- Provide clinical oversight support to the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, including those related to client confidentiality and safety.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Doctoral Degree in Psychology from an accredited institution.
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
- Minimum of two years of experience in clinical psychology, preferably in addiction and mental health services.
- Strong understanding of indigenous cultures, traditions, and the impact of historical trauma.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with Indigenous populations and understanding of Indigenous cultures and practices.
- Experience in mobile outreach or community-based settings.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
- Proficiency in Cree or other Indigenous languages is an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and Naloxone administration is an asset.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Shelter will operate 24/7, which may require employees to work during evenings, weekends, and holidays. Shift schedules may vary, and flexibility in working hours may be necessary. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
