Early Childhood Educator Support Worker
2 positions available: 1 Full Time and 1 Part Time term, often tied to specific child's funding hours
Future 4 Nations is an early learning centre hosted by Mamele'awt Qweesome Housing Society (MQHS), a proud Indigenous organization located in Chilliwack, BC. We believe every child deserves to thrive, and we work closely with the Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) program to provide individualized support for children with diverse abilities.
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Early Childhood Educator Support Worker to provide specialized one-on-one support to a child/children with additional needs. This role is crucial in fostering their engagement, safety, and holistic development within a culturally safe and affirming environment.

Position Summary: The one-on-one support worker is responsible for providing individualized support to a designated child with additional needs. They will assist the child in engaging with daily activities, ensuring their safety, and fostering their social, emotional, and developmental growth while following the guidance of the ECE.
**Responsibilities**:
- Child Support & Inclusion:
- Provide individualized support to the assigned child, ensuring their safety, well-being, and engagement in daily activities.
- Assist the child in following classroom routines, participating in learning experiences, and developing social and self-regulation skills.
- Promote independence in all areas of the child's development.
- Implement strategies and interventions as directed by the ECE, specialists, or therapists, in collaboration with the Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) Consultant.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Work under the direction of the ECE, respecting their role in managing the classroom.
- Maintain open, professional communication with the ECE, ECEA’s, Elders, Volunteers, and families as appropriate.
- Provide feedback on the child’s progress, challenges, and any observations that may support their development.
- Talk to the child’s parent/guardian at pick-up and drop-off, providing brief updates on their day while ensuring that detailed concerns or discussions are directed to the ECE.
- Maintain confidentiality of all records, materials, and communications concerning clients, staff, and MQHS, with an understanding that relevant notes will be shared with the ASCD program.
- Behavior & Emotional Support:
- Assist in implementing behavior management strategies that align with the child’s care plan.
- Foster positive social interactions between the child and their peers.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to help the child develop confidence and independence.
- Health & Safety:
- Ensure the child’s physical and emotional safety at all times.
- Assist with personal care as needed if required (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility support).
- Follow all workplace policies and procedures.
- Help serve snacks and lunch to the children, ensuring proper food handling procedures.
- Help clean and sanitize the toys & centre, reporting any unsafe conditions, practices, or injuries to the Program Coordinator as soon as possible.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECE-A) Certificate or License to Practice from the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care.
- (An ECE with Special Needs Educator (SNE) certification is highly preferred).
- Current First Aid & CPR certificate.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Review.
- Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
- Work experience providing individualized childcare for children with diverse abilities is an asset, with preference for experience in Indigenous-led or culturally focused programs.
- Knowledge of Indigenous history and culture or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal Head Start (AHS) principles, values, and guidelines or willingness to learn.
- Food Safe certification is an asset; however, training will be provided.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Aptitude to work independently and under the direction of the ECE effectively.
- Ability to maintain a healthy working relationship with staff, community representatives/members, and representatives of other organizations, including collaboration with other MQHS programs and staff as required.
