**Location: Red Deer/Joffre, Alberta**

**Full Time Permanent**

**Job Overview and Responsibilities**:
Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

- Lead and develop staff, including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
- Monitor workload and prioritize tasks based on client and Bureau Veritas’s needs.
- Ensure release of results meets or exceeds client turnaround expectations.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment, report outages, and arrange repairs as necessary.
- Develop and validate analytical methods in accordance with established practices.
- Write, maintain, and improve SOPs, work instructions, and safety documentation.
- Assist in the maintenance of CALA accreditation and ISO 17025 laboratory requirements, and devising/implementing audit responses.
- Provide technical expertise and training to staff on a day-to-day basis.
- Review analytical and quality control data on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain on-site accountability for WHMIS, OH&S, and Responsible Care compliance.
- Develop strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
- Develop and nurture ongoing relationship with peers in other internal departments and its customers.
- With the Manager, assist in developing business plans that increase Bureau Veritas’ profile in the region.
- Develop and maintain a positive work environment for employees.

**Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have**:

- Post-Secondary Degree in related field (i.e. BSc,)
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in specific environment of which two (2) years are at a leadership level, preferably in a refinery or petrochemical environment
- Up-to-date knowledge of laboratory process and automation
- Thorough understanding of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Assess problems and recommends solutions
- Uses good judgement, trains and assists in resolution of employee relations issues
- Good team building, training and coaching skills
- Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Works both independently and as part of a team
- Strong computer skills

Experience:

- Minimum Education: Degree in related field (required)
- 3-5 years of experience in related field, preferably in a refinery or petrochemical environment (required)
- 2 years of experience at leadership level (required)

Schedule:

- Monday - Friday
- Requires flexible working hours and overtime including weekends based on operational needs
