Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Construction, and under the general direction of a Project Coordinator (Mechanical/Electrical), the Project Officer (Mechanical/Electrical) is responsible for project planning, implementation, and execution of various renovations, alterations, and upgrades to Board Facilities. They may also be assigned to undertake other duties as requested by the supervisor.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Contributes to an ongoing yearly portfolio of projects and helps prepare budgets for implementation under the direction of the Project Coordinator (Mechanical/Electrical)
Reviews existing site conditions and verifies requirements in order to develop project specific scopes of work
Consults with stakeholders, end-users, and technicians to identify project requirements and communicate impacts during construction
Prepares tender documents for the engagement of third party vendors, and oversees the performance of service contracts and work projects to ensure milestones and deliverables are completed
Engages in construction administration duties including site inspections, site meetings, shop drawing reviews, minutes of meetings, site instructions, progress reviews, invoicing and monthly billings, occupancy inspections and project closeout
Develops risk assessment and contingency plans for ongoing construction projects
Provides technical support for preventative maintenance service programs, and for the installation or relocation of portable classroom units
Develops and/or maintains energy conservation programs, ensuring technical obligations regarding health & safety, environmental, and local authority regulations are adhered to
Reviews and evaluates requests from schools in the M&E area
Submits documentation to regulatory agencies for issuance of permits (building, inspection, ESA, plumbing, etc.)
Maintains a computerized inventory of mechanical/electrical systems and updates school/facility drawings, property records, and relevant codes and regulations, and provides review input to drawings by external consultants
Coordinates environmental testing to update Designated Substance Reports and reinforces safe working practices to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
Liaises with consultants, contractors, school officials and suppliers as required
Completes departmental administrative responsibilities and other duties as assigned
**Required Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills**:
Degree or Diploma in a mechanical and/or electrical engineering field
Five years of related work experience
Knowledge of Building, Electrical, and Fire Codes, HVAC controls, and ASHRAE standards
Competency in mechanical/electrical drafting, and an understanding of institutional building technology and related building codes and by-laws
Proficiency with Google Suite, MS Word, Excel, MS Project and AutoCAD
Good communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
A valid driver’s licence and use of a personal vehicle
This is a full time (1.0 FTE) permanent position with a salary range of $92,779 - $100,637. The anticipated start date of this position will be as soon as the recruitment process is complete. A comprehensive employee benefits and pension package is provided.
