**Labourer - Culvert Maintenance**

**Public Works**

Brazeau County is looking for a seasonal **Labourer** to join our Public Works Maintenance team from April to October. Our seasonal workers are offered great perks including health, dental, and wellness benefits, and safety allowances. This labourer’s primary responsibility will be to perform culvert maintenance and flood control. The seasonal labourer also provides general labour duties as part of the maintenance crew.

**Responsibilities**:

- Manually digging out culvert inlets and outlets.
- Maintain and keep culverts clean and clear.
- Monitor and report beaver activity at culverts.
- Performs general labour including brushing, fencing, debris removal, painting, trenching, pipeline exposure, sign placement and repair etc.
- Flagging as required.
- May be required to operate light equipment including skid steer, bobcat, or mower tractor.
- Adheres to guidelines as set out in Brazeau County’s policies and administrative directives, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Accountable for working in compliance with the _Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act,_ regulations and codes, and participates in the Health and Safety Program.
- Overtime and weekend work will be required as necessary by operational needs.
- Shift work may be implemented as required, this may include emergency response call outs.
- To undertake any other reasonable duty, commensurate with the classification and responsibility of the position, across the department in order to meet service priorities and business continuity requirements.
- May be required in the event of a municipal emergency to support the emergency operations centre and incident action/recovery plan.

**Competency Areas**:**Education/Training**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.

**Licenses/Certifications/Designation**:

- A valid Class 5 License is required.
- A satisfactory Five-Year Commercial Driver’s Abstract is required

**Experiences/Knowledge/Skills**:

- Labourer or light equipment experience is considered an asset but not required.
- A strong service focus with good verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate effectively.
- Ability to carry out physical labor for duration of a shift.
- Ability to follow direction given by supervisory staff.
- Knowledge of road construction or maintenance is preferred
- Mechanically inclined
- Basic computer skills are required

**Physical Requirements**:

- Labourer activities require considerable physical effort such as moving, standing, lifting, or pulling awkward objects. Activities may involve high repetition of work such as digging or lifting.

**Shift and Rate of Pay**:

- Union Grid 2A - 2D ($23.30 - $27.13)
- Designated as Seasonal, Full-Time - 40 hours per week.
- Season is approximately from April 14th to October 16th.
- Hours of Work per Collective Agreement
- The probationary period applies.
- Area of work encompasses the Brazeau County area
