**Weed Control - Environmental Technician**:
The Eastern Irrigation District (EID), Brooks, Alberta, seeks a full time WEED CONTROL - ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIAN to join our Operations Team.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Using several safe control methods including boom spraying, backpack treatments, aquatic treatments, mowing, rototilling, and hand picking, handle the control of species of undesirable vegetation. This will include on and in the District’s waterways of irrigation systems, right-of-ways, and grounds using chemical, mechanical or manual methods as deemed necessary.
- Participate in the annual purchase of broadleaf and aquatic chemical.
- Maintain EID Service Registration and special approvals; attend all certification courses on a yearly basis; renew licenses when applicable.
- Working with the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator, develop and maintain Emergency Response Plans for chemical storage area.
- Relate to and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, management and others sincerely, clearly, tactfully, promptly and courteously; respond to inquiries and issues promptly and professionally.
- Ensure compliance with OH&S including attendance at regular safety tailgate meetings, being properly trained, and completing work in a safe manner.
- Ensure the District vehicle is kept in proper working order, and report any problems to the District Mechanic.
- Performs tasks, consistent with the position, as may be required on an ad hoc basis.
- Note: In the winter season, participate in general construction and upkeep of the District including building structures, pipeline construction, canal construction, fencing, and operating light and heavy equipment.

**Job Qualifications**:

- In possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 license
- Must obtain and maintain both Aquatic and Industrial Applicators licenses
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently or with limited supervision
- Demonstrated focus on attention to detail and thoroughness
