**Position Summary**

Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator, this leadership role is responsible for the overall operation of the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life & Leadership programs, daily supervision of staff, planning of programs and schedules, performance evaluations, and aid in the development of Aquatic programs for the Canada Games Centre. Additionally, this role performs administrative functions, assists with the delivery of programs, assists with personnel matters, and ensures safety policies and procedures are adhered to. The Aquatics Program Supervisor must be highly organized, manage time effectively, and complete scheduling tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

**Responsibilities**
- Oversee the overall program delivery of aquatic programs and services. Ensure all programming meets program provider standards as well as internally established policies and procedures.
- Directly supervise on deck weekday evening/weekend morning lessons (about 4 hours daily)
- Provide immediate swim instructor/lifeguard coverage for unexpected demands and fill-in as a substitute swim instructor/lifeguard as required
- Oversee staff schedules for aquatic programs, overall supervision and first line of contact for patron concerns
- Work in conjunction with Aquatics Coordinator to ensure program quality aligns with the Centre’s values and Canadian Sport for Life vision for programs
- Assist in developing and expanding any procedural documents and training materials necessary for staff training
- Assist with the input of program registration, changes, and cancellations
- Assist with school group swim lesson logistics
- Assist with inputting programs in registration system/ compiling up-to-date class lists/updating iWork (online scheduling program)
- Evaluate staff and programs to ensure a high standard of quality program is delivered
- Capable of using independent judgment when needed, a professional demeanour under pressure and taking charge of emergency situations in absence of the Aquatics Coordinator
- Leadership skills that instil confidence and trust in fellow employees and public
- Work cooperatively with all levels in the organization (supervisors, staff, members, and patrons)
- Work with all CGC departments in delivery of services
- Conduct when scheduled/needed all the job description outlines of a Person on Duty (POD)
- Perform, in a cooperative manner, other duties assigned by Aquatics Coordinator and/or Manager of Recreation & Program Services

**Qualifications**

**_ Mandatory_**
- Post-secondary education in Recreation/Business Management or related experience
- 3 to 5 years of work experience in an aquatic setting in a Supervisory role
- Experience in leading and developing staff.
- Program planning and adaptation
- Customer Service training and experience
- National Lifeguard (NL)
- Intermediate Workplace First Aid, Airway Management
- Water Safety Instructor (WSI)/ SFL Instructor, or YMCA Instructor
- Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) (with Bronze Examiner)
- Lifesaving/Swim for Life or WSI or YMCA Instructor Trainer

**_Desirable_**
- National Lifeguard & First Aid Instructor
- WHMIS
- Pool Operator I
- High Five PHCD or Sport Trainer
- Legend or Recreation Software experience
- iWork scheduling systems experience

**Knowledge and Education**
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively while remaining calm in emergency situations, with strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills to communicate effectively
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and oral skills
- Possess strong coordination and leadership skills
- Ability to coach, train and guide staff, volunteers and participants

**Working Conditions**
- Accommodate a variable work schedule that may include early morning, late evening, and weekend hours
- Current schedule will be either Tuesday-Friday 11:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday 7:30am to 3:30pm or Sunday 7:30am to 3:30pm and Monday-Thursday 11:00am to 7:00pm depending on staff availability
- Additionally fulfill Person on Duty (POD) shifts 2:30pm to 10:30pm on rotation
- Expanded hours will be required during Week 1 and Week 9 of programs and during staff evaluation periods
