Recreation Therapy Assistant

**Summary of Duties**
Responsible for the provision of recreation therapy services for residents and patients in the Veterans Program. Responsibilities include the planning and implementation of on unit recreation therapy programs, community outings and special events in collaboration with the Recreation Therapist.
Qualification/Skills
- Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, required
- CPR Certification at the basic Rescuer level, essential
- Membership with Recreation Therapy Professional Association, essential
- Current registration status with TRO (R/TRO dip), preferred
- Experience working with the elderly, required
- Experience working with mental health, preferred
- Experience working with Dementia Care, an asset
- Demonstrated ability to implement recreation therapy programs in a long-term care facility
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all level, both within the organization and the community
- Demonstrated awareness of, or involvement in, current issues in the recreation therapy profession both at the provincial and national levels
- Ability to work with the interdisciplinary team and multiple health professions on clinical and program development issues
- Demonstrated self-directed behaviour and leadership skills needed to work independently.
