**Scope of position**:
The Recreation Director is responsible for the development, coordination and facilitation of programs and services that meet the needs of the home’s residents, while ensuring compliance with all levels of legislation.
**Key Responsibilities**
Resident Relations:
- Assists in the orientation of new residents.
- Ensures a smooth transition for the resident by liaison with the appropriate departments and ensures related moves are recorded and lists are kept up-to-date with other areas of the home.
- Plan, implement and evaluates a recreation program developed to meet identified needs of the residents.
- Establishes and maintains the operating budget for the recreation department
- Plans marketing strategies, market rates and event development.
- Participation in promotional events and meetings with members of the community, seniors groups and associations, etc. to raise the profile and market the services of the organization.
- Provides leadership and is responsible for hiring, training, and scheduling of recreation staff and volunteers.
- Provides support and response to resident and family inquiries and concerns related to events, programs and activities of daily living.
**Leadership**:
- Participates as a member of the work team and provides support to the other members of the team.
**Budget & Financial**:
- Forecasting, monitoring, and approving expenditures from funds allocated to the budget.
**Other**:
- Participation in all conferences and instructional courses as required.
- Ensuring the confidentiality of information relating to residents, families and colleagues.
- Is aware of employees and supervisor’s responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
- Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.
- Is alert to, remedies, and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations.
- Wears personal protective equipment (or clothing) as required by task, MSDS, or home policy.
- All others related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
Education/Experience:
- Experience in roles where he/she has demonstrated ability in leadership, interpersonal skills, and,
- Demonstrates that he/she is self-directed, accountable, an effective problem-solver and team leader.
- Experience in customer service roles.
- Graduate of a certificate/diploma or degree in recreation or gerontology.
**Skills & Abilities**:
- Demonstrates that he/she is self-directed, accountable, an effective problem-solver and has proven leadership skills.
**Special Requirements**:
- Valid Driver’s license.
- Must be willing to work the hours necessary to ensure the effective operations of the Home.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as lift and carrying heavy trays and items.
Pay: $40,000.00 per year
