**Fire Prevention Lead**:
The Fire Prevention Lead is responsible for overseeing all aspects of fire safety at Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyards and Vancouver Drydock facilities. They will work to identify potential fire hazards and develop strategies to prevent and mitigate fires. This will include developing fire safety training and related programs, auditing compliance with applicable regulations and standards, overseeing emergency response and the VSY Fire Brigade, planning and maintaining operability of fire detection and suppression systems, and coordinating with municipal Fire Departments to help ensure success in the event of a fire at one of the facilities.

**Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Ave, North Vancouver.**

**What you’ll do**

Fire Prevention:

- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, fire departments, and other external stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
- Foster a culture of safety awareness and proactive communication among all employees, promoting fire safety education and awareness programs.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as Operations, Maintenance, and Health & Safety, to develop integrated safety strategies and coordinate efforts.
- Develop and implement comprehensive fire prevention and suppression programs tailored to each facility.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for fire prevention, emergency response, and evacuation procedures.
- Develop and coordinate fire safety training for trades and salaried personnel.
- Plan and coordinate regular inspections and risk assessments of the facilities to identify and mitigate fire hazards.
- Develop and implement fire prevention strategies and safety protocols, including the installation and maintenance of fire protection systems, such as fire alarms, sprinklers, and extinguishers.
- Collaborate internally with relevant departments to ensure compliance with fire safety codes, regulations, and internal standards.
- Conduct investigations into fire incidents, analyze root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Lead a team of Fire Prevention Specialists responsible for identifying fire hazards, conducting inspections, and implementing fire prevention strategies within the facilities. Provide guidance and support, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary knowledge, tools, and resources to perform their duties optimally.
- Review and analyze reports generated by Fire Prevention Specialists regarding fire hazards, safety compliance, and corrective actions required to ensure recommendations have been implemented and fire risks have been mitigated.

Emergency Response:

- Develop and oversee emergency response plans, ensuring they are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated to all employees.
- Coordinate with local emergency services and agencies to establish effective communication channels and mutual aid agreements.
- Evaluate and mitigate risks associated with fire incidents, making informed decisions to ensure the safety of personnel and minimize property damage.
- Establish and maintain an efficient and well-trained internal fire brigade, including recruiting, training, and supervising brigade members.
- Design and conduct regular training exercises, drills, and simulations to ensure the fire brigade is adequately prepared for emergencies.
- Assess and monitor the performance of the fire brigade members, providing feedback, mentoring, and additional training as necessary.
- Manage the post-incident review process, analyzing response effectiveness and implementing improvements as needed.

**What you’ll bring**
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Extensive experience in industrial fire prevention, suppression, and emergency response, including leadership roles.
- Certification as a Fire Officer or equivalent (e.g., Chief Fire Officer) is highly desirable.
- In-depth knowledge of fire protection systems, firefighting techniques, and relevant safety regulations (BC fire code, NFPA Standards, BC Building Codes, and OHSR Requirements).
- Strong organizational and managerial skills, with the ability to train, motivate, and lead a team effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for fire prevention, incident management, and reporting.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and access confined spaces without undue increase in risk.
