Transportation Driver

**Job Summary**

**Duties**

**Maintenance and Vehicle Upkeep**:

- Responsible for making sure that the PHHC minibus is clean, kept in good condition, and up to date with service requirements.
- Responsible for working with Better at Home leadership to facilitate regular servicing, tire changes, and scheduled maintenance as needed.
- Responsible for ensuring that the vehicle is fueled and ready for operations.
- Responsible for conducting pre and post trip checklists and notifying leadership with any issues.
- Responsible for taking care of roadside maintenance issues and calls to the relevant agencies (ie towing etc.

**Record Keeping**:

- Responsible for logging daily kms and other pertinent safety information.
- Responsible for logging ridership and sharing that information with Better at Home leadership.
- Ensuring all critical incidents and near misses are logged and reported as needed.
- Ensuing all logs and vehicle paperwork is completed as scheduled.

**Operations and Safety**:

- Responsible for following a set route and route timings.
- Able to operate the bus in a safe manner in accordance with BC road laws and legislation.
- Ability to operate the minibus in varying weather situations, such as sun, wind, rain and occasionally snow.
- Ability to problem solve any minor issues with the vehicle while enroute.
- Ability to operate the accessible lift in a safe manner (training will be provided).
- Ensuring passengers are safe and comfortable (i.e. wearing seatbelts, appropriately situated in the bus).
- Report delays, mechanical problems and accidents.

**Customer Service**:

- Able to interact and engage with clients (seniors) in an empathetic and respectful manner.
- Able to problem solve with clients and help find client centered solutions.
- At times physically supporting clients to enter and access the bus either via the door or the mechanical lift.
- Reporting client concerns and safety issues to management as needed.

**Skills**

**Qualifications**
- Class 5 BC License (with no endorsement)
- Higher pay for Class 4 License holders
- At least 25 years of age
- At least 3 years experience of driving in a rural setting
- Clear Criminal Record Check

**Desirable Skills**
- Time management skills: A successful applicant should be able to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Physically fit: The applicant must be in good physical condition and able to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs
- Problem-solving skills: The applicant should have the ability to solve basic problems that may arise on the job such as traffic or route changes
- Communication skills: The applicant should be able to relay any issues or problems to leadership and engage with clients in a calm and respectful manner.
- Organizational skills: A successful job applicant should have the ability to complete logs, checklists and other paperwork.
- Experience driving a minibus or commercial vehicles.
- Experience of working with customers and the public in a customer relations role.
- Ability to risk assess a situation and deescalate conflict as needed.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $25.00-$30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 22.5 per week
