Class 1 Driver - Edmonton Hatchery

Job purpose

The Class 1 Driver is responsible for hauling hatching eggs and chicks primarily in Alberta and occasionally in Saskatchewan. This position includes all responsibilities associated to maintaining all the company owned equipment required to complete the live haul and arriving at the destinations safely and efficiently.

**Responsibilities**:

- Complete safety checks and preparation of truck and trailer units for transport and operation. Accountable for ensuring the truck and trailers are in good operating condition and meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure load is secure to have product arrive at destination in good condition.
- Load and unload eggs and chicks.
- Follow all highway transport regulations.
- Maintain accurate records using Electronic Log Devices (ELD) and / or paper log.
- Ensuring a safe work environment for coworkers, customers and producers.

**Qualifications**:

- Class 1 Driver’s License, with air brakes required for tractor-trailer units.
- Provide and maintain a clean 5-year commercial drivers abstract.
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Well-developed communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Good attendance and reliability are essential.
- Critical thinker with the ability to develop and initiate action plans to meet deadlines and achieve results while respecting core values.
- Problem solving ability to identify the elements of a problem situation and understand which components are critical.
- Must be motivated and require minimum supervision in performing job responsibilities.

Working conditions
- Regular exposure to factors causing moderate discomfort.

Physical requirements
Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location. A regular need to stop or move/lift light material or equipment. Adjust tarps on trailer as per the weather condition.
**Sensory Attention**: Occasional need to give close attention, either hearing or seeing to what is happening.

**Mental Stress**:
Work and environment tend to be repetitious/ unchanging. Some pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy, or similar demands. There could be some mildly unpleasant social contacts and/or some concern about possible unpleasant situations.
