Privacy Lead

The Privacy Lead provides coordination and guidance on privacy matters to the members of the Privacy office and to the organzition. In addition, this role mitigates organizational risk by increasing privacy compliance with both internal policies and legislated requirements and promotes a corporate culture of privacy awareness.
**Major Functions and Responsibilities**
- Provide organizational wide leadership, and education, in the area of privacy of information, driving policy development and ensuring compliance with privacy legislations.
- Provide guidance in the investigation of privacy breaches and report breaches as required by privacy legislations and contractual agreements.
- Oversee the development, implemention and maintainence of instructor lead and eLearning training on privacy awareness.
- Oversee the development of Privacy Impact Assessments providing direction, guidance and support to others throughout the organization.
- Oversee the development of Privacy Risk Assessments for new business initiatives or process changes.
- Review and assess data and quarterly reports on metrics for organizational privacy incidents/breaches.
- Participate collaboratively on provincial working groups to standardize processes throughout Alberta. Always maintaining DynaLIFE’s vision, mission and goals, contractual requirements, and the best patient care with a professional manner.
- Champion the development of a privacy culture throughout the organization to minimize privacy breaches and increase privacy awareness and understanding while maintaining a positive environment for our customers.
- Investigate privacy breaches and, as required, prepare and submit privacy breach notifications and follow up letters.
- Prepare Privacy Impact Assessments (PIA) as necessary to meet legislative requirements.
- Respond to inquiries from customers who contact the organization with requests for information related to corporate privacy practices and procedures.
- Positively influence opinions and perceptions of the organization through privacy advocacy thereby reducing organizational risk.
- Prepare and maintain annual departmental budget.
**Required Skills**:

Required Experience
- 2-3 years of leadership experience preferred.
- Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in a privacy role in a health care related field.
- Knowledge of laboratory systems and processes is an asset.
- Knowledge of privacy legislations including the Health Information Act, Personal Information Protection Act, Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Knowledge of privacy legislations of other provinces and territories, and privacy policies of external organizations is an asset.
**Minimum Qualifications**
- Post secondary diploma or degree in a related field preferred.
- Privacy training or certificate preferred.
