**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Associate VP, Academic, the Director is responsible for championing a culture of scholarship, innovation and entrepreneurship at Langara College, strategically advancing high-quality undergraduate applied research, with a focus on the needs and capabilities of Langara’s Centres. The Director oversees all research programs and services from ideation to delivery and impact, and manages their related budgets. The Director plays a pivotal role in building and managing complex multi-stakeholder partnerships (faculty, staff, students, college areas, and external partners from industry, public, private, not-for-profit sectors) to identify and develop innovative collaborations and research opportunities/initiatives for the College. The Director leads or co-creates multi-year strategic plans in alignment with the College’s Strategic and Academic Plans.

Qualifications Required:
Education & Experience:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent graduate education.- Minimum ten (10) years’ of progressively diverse leadership experience within the fields of applied research and scholarship, innovation and entrepreneurship, within an academic or business environment.- Extensive experience in research proposal development, design, policy development and evaluative design technologies.- A solid understanding of applied research, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship issues in both the private and public sectors.- Considerable experience in business development, identifying and implementing new growth opportunities, writing and securing funding and grants.- Experience managing a high performing entrepreneurial team including human resources activities (hiring, mentoring, performance management, administration).- Experience working with a unionized environment- Experience managing complex budgets, including those with specialized external-funder requirements.- Well networked among thought leaders, key national and international peer organizations.- Proven project leadership experience, leading complex projects from inception to completion

Skills & Abilities:
- Proven strategic planning and operational leadership skills.- Excellent in advanced writing skills are essential and published work is a definite asset.- Interpersonal and relationship management skills.- Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to articulate the college’s mission to students, faculty, staff, government officials, industry partners, and College constituents.- Highly developed organizational and leadership skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse team of academic professionals.- Superior presentation skills.-
- Ability to exercise high degree of confidentiality- Exceptional ability to foster a cooperative work environment.- A commitment to collaborative and consultative processes.- Demonstrates a commitment to a balance of qualitative and data-driven approach to decision making.-
- Proficient with various software packages including Enterprise Resource Programs (e.g. Workday), Customer Relationship Management programs (e.g. Microsoft Dynamics)- Must be able to travel regularly within Canada and occasionally internationally.
