**Yard Crew Lead Hand**

**Job Summary**

We are looking for a permanent full time **Yard Crew** **Lead Hand** to join the Compass Bending team in Calgary. In business for over 20 years, we have firmly established ourselves in a competitive industry by supplying a consistently high level of service for our customers and have built a reputation to be proud of. We primarily serve western Canada's Oil & Gas industry as well as a very diverse group of customers in a wide range of other industries.

It is essential that the person we are looking for is familiar with shop practices in metal manufacturing, has a complete command of spoken and written English, has very good interpersonal skills, pays excellent attention to detail and understands the need for accuracy. This is a hands-on shipping yard position, working outside in all weather.

It would be very favourable if you have experience working in a small business environment, in manufacturing or the energy industry.

**Starting wage - $27.00 / hour**

**Responsibilities and Duties**

**The work would include**:

- Operating mobile cranes, overhead cranes, forklifts
- Loading and unloading trucks (flat-decks and vans)
- Handling pipe, tube and structural steel, by hand and with cranes and forklift
- Managing small yard crew
- Working outside in all weather, some inside work
- Working individually or as part of a small group
- Working cooperatively with customers and drivers
- Planning
- Organizing and maintaining yard (inventory and finished product)
- Packaging (bundles, strapping, pallets, crate, timbers/dunnage, chocks)
- Marking/stencilling orders for shipment
- Maintaining and cleaning equipment
- Reading and following work order instructions
- Checking dimensions of raw materials and finished products
- Checking piece-counts when shipping and when receiving
- Understanding dimensions in Imperial and Metric systems
- Use of measuring tapes, calipers, jigs

**Skills and experience required**:

- Experience in operating cranes and forklifts is essential
- Rigging
- Good attention to detail
