**Job Coach/Employment Specialist - 12 Month Contract (Hybrid)**

**The Position**

**Key areas of responsibility will include**:
**_ Job Seeker Support:_**
- Assess applicants' needs, aid in setting goals and outline steps required to achieve goals.
- Develop and implement effective coaching strategies to help clients overcome employment-related challenges.
- Identifying participants' strengths and advising them on how to use those strengths to secure employment or excel in the skilled trades
- Providing information on suitable skilled trades career paths based on participants' skills, qualifications, interests, and experience.
- Reviewing clients' resumes and suggesting improvements as needed.
- Refer applicants to other community services when appropriate and track referrals.
- Connect applicants to potential employers by shortlisting on request.
- Identify common issues and innovative approaches to support individuals seeking apprenticeships.
- Follow and track a variety of performance metrics.

**_ Community Support and Program Delivery_**
- Develop professional presentation materials to deliver to individuals who are interested in or pursuing a skilled trade career.
- Working with Developers/Programmers to identity bugs and issues with the platform that need to be addressed.
- Generating ideas for iterations to the platform that will provide a better user experience for both job seekers and employers; and

**_ Other duties could include:_**
- Assist with project/conference workshop proposals.
- Assist with the creation of resources; and
- Maintain performance related statistical reports.

**Key Competencies**:

- Previous experience serving multi-barriered clients while demonstrating a non-judgmental, positive approach to challenges.
- Technological competencies (for example, a comfort in learning about and using a proprietary platform, ability to make simple website changes in a platform similar to WordPress, ability to generate reports using technology);
- Proven ability to work effectively under pressure, to be part of a team, to be responsive and to meet deadlines; and
- Interest and ability to work in a smaller-sized, not-for-profit organization.

**Qualifications to succeed**:

- Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
- Career counselling/job coaching experience and/or training.
- Knowledge and experience related to the apprenticeship system and the skilled trades in Ontario and other jurisdictions
- A working knowledge of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), the Ontario Works Act, Employment Standards Act, and Human Rights Legislation.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance, willing to do some travelling.
- Proficient in the use of computer software i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet; and
- Experience creating and delivering presentations.

**Working Conditions**
- Typical working hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with some requirement to work additional hours, occasionally during evenings and weekends.
- Currently work is remote/from home, with a planned return to work in our Burlington office when it is safe to do so.
- Required to travel within Ontario for presentations, partnership meetings, conferences, etc. when in-person meetings are safe and permitted.
