**Job description**
Reporting to the Site Supervisor, the Demolition Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the basic maintenance of equipment, safety around equipment and the compliance of following demolition plans for projects based throughout Western Canada. Equipment may include excavators equipped with second and third member shears, breakers, pulverizers, magnets as well as front-end loaders, skid steers, rock trucks, and other pieces of equipment. **Sublatus** is committed to operating with a high standard of safety and responsible work practices. The Heavy Equipment Operator must align with and enforce these standards at all times. Must be fit for duty at all times.
JOB DUTIES
- Highly disciplined and understands the importance of following procedures and maintaining systems and equipment.
- Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience **(5000+ hours) **working on a construction site with heavy equipment and alongside other skilled trades team members.
- Valid and up-to-date drivers’ license with a clean drivers’ abstract.
- Demonstrate skill in the identification of key hazards and use of strategies to work safely, such as: an understanding of supports and weak points in steel structures, knowledge of hazardous materials in a demolition setting, understanding of equipment abilities in a demolition environment, excavation safety, stability of machine, and awareness of position, clearance, safe movement, other machinery/vehicles/workers.
- Start-up and Shut down of equipment safely, by following comprehensive pre-operational checks, start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Maintain and monitor equipment, following maintenance procedures and monitoring gauges.
- Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required.
- Advise the Foreman / Site Superintendent of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
- 2+ years of experience working in a demolition setting.
- Highly disciplined and understands the importance of following procedures and maintaining systems.
- Knowledge of various recyclable (ferrous, non-ferrous metals) and waste streams
- Accuracy and attention to detail; organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and appropriate representation of Sublatus to our clients and the general public.
- Must be willing and able to travel to job site locations within western Canada.
- Mechanically inclined.
- Ability to work independently and with little supervision but also recognize when questions should be asked.
- **Willingness and ability to work extended hours and weekends.**
- Must be able to identify hazards and perform the role in a safe manner.
- Must also possess an understanding of the issues regarding public safety and the ability to work in and implement safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment.
- Must be able to pass a Drug and Alcohol testing & 50lbs Fitness for Duty.
- Other duties as required.

- A clean criminal record check
- A physical fitness-for-duty test (25 lbs. for office employees and 50 lbs. for field)
- A negative alcohol and drug test result
- A clean driver abstract
- Consent to participate in all required tests.
All employees acknowledge that sustained employment of this position is dependent on meeting these requirements. All employees acknowledge that if an offer of employment is extended, further testing may be required from time to time, pre-access to certain job sites, post-incidents which may include, reasonable suspicion, or upon returning to work from injury or illness (whether work-related, or not).
