**About the team**
The Investment Services team manage over $8 billion in assets primarily used to fund teacher benefits. The investment professionals use their financial skills to perform the day-to-day operations of the investment program.
**What you’ll do**
The Associate Portfolio Manager, Public Market supports the portfolio managers in the build out of investment mandates in equities and derivatives within an institutional environment. This position is designed to give the incumbent the necessary skills and experience to be transitioned into a portfolio manager role. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position will support the team in developing and executing value-added strategies, from building infrastructure and processes to implementing and executing internal trading functions.
Responsibilities include:
- Acts as a point of contact for the Federations’ external fund managers with a focus on building new relationships as well as maintaining effective working relationships with the Federation’s external fund managers.
- Monitors performance of external fund managers, identifies related risks and recommends actions related to manager underperformance.
- Develops and maintains manager watch-list and related documentation.
- Monitors manager compliance with assigned mandates and policy guidelines.
- Actively participates in the development of external portfolio management strategy, including the structuring of underlying manager mandates and drafts recommendations under the guidance of the portfolio manager.
- Leads research and due diligence efforts with regard to potential new fund managers and develops related recommendations in alignment with overall portfolio strategy, budgetary considerations and risk appetite.
- Makes manager onsite visits as required.
- Actively participates in the negotiation of fund manager agreements.
- Assumes trading responsibilities of internally managed portfolios as assigned.
- Designs, drafts and presents reports and recommendations to the Chief Investment Officer, Executive, and the Investment Committee.
**What you’ll bring**
- An undergraduate degree in commerce, economics/finance or related field combined with 5-7 years of related experience as an investment analyst. A professional designation in the field of investment services is highly desirable.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of public and private market investments.
- Thorough knowledge of financial practices and relevant legislation and regulations.
- Effective interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with external fund managers.
- Knowledge of computer technology used in the financial industry including Bloomberg.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Well-developed written and oral communication skills with an ability to draft, support and defend well-developed argument.
