**The goal of the Court Worker program is to assist in reducing the over representation of Aboriginal people in the justice system, by assisting Aboriginal individuals to better understand their rights, options and responsibilities when appearing before the courts. The program can assist adults and youth charged with a criminal offense; separating couples; and parents involved in child welfare matters.**

**Court Workers will work with individuals to develop a plan of care directed towards understanding the root causes of their behaviour with the intention of promoting better life choices, improved decision making, and relationships within the family and community.**

**Qualifications**:

- **Post-secondary education in Community and Justice and/or Indigenous studies;**:

- **Minimum of 3 years work experience in the community and justice field, preferably for an Aboriginal organization;**:

- **Basic knowledge of court procedures and legal terminology;**:

- **Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on family violence, child welfare, and the impact of trauma;**:

- **Excellent advocacy and people skills; ability to build positive working relationships with external agencies and within the justice system (lawyers, crown attorneys, etc);**:

- **Ability to work within the established policies and procedures of the organization;**:

- **Must have the ability to work independently and as a team player, with mínimal supervision;**:

- **Must have a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel when required;**:

- **Must possess current First Aid / CPR certification or be willing to be certified;**:

- **Good organizational and administrative skills;**:

- **Excellent report writing skills;**:

- **Aboriginal heritage a preference and Ojibway language is an asset; and,**:

- **A satisfactory Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) will be a condition of the employment offer.**:

- **Must be fully vaccinated (COVID-19)**
