**VISION**:
At the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA), we celebrate and honour the safety and healing of Indigenous Women and Girls as they take up their leadership roles in the family, community, provincially, nationally, and internationally for generations to come.
**SCOPE**:
The **Indigenous Youth Leadership Coordinator** position is a key component in the delivery of the ONWA Indigenous Youth Life Promotion Program and ensures a range of holistic services for youth across the province. This provincially focused program will provide culturally based services that meet the inclusive needs of Indigenous youth.
The Indigenous Youth Leadership Coordinator will provide/coordinate services that focus on the mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being through a cultural, trauma informed gender-based approach. Programming will focus on land-based programming and ceremony through traditional teachings and mentorship programs provided to Indigenous youth. The Indigenous Youth Leadership Program works to meet the need of Indigenous community members by providing training opportunities, leadership events and work experience to participating youth.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Women’s Studies, Recreation or Health Sciences with a minimum three (3) years’ work experience or combination of work and lived experience in Indigenous youth programming, community service delivery in a project coordination role.
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and with Indigenous organizations
- Comprehensive understanding of mental health issues and suicide prevention.
- Experience developing programming and tool kits. - this sounds like a responsibility and noted below
- Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture, traditions, ceremony, and the ability to connect Community Members to cultural practices that can be used in supporting youth
- Thorough knowledge and experience working in and with a gender-based lens/perspective
- Solid understanding of recent, historical, and intergenerational trauma Indigenous youth and their families may have experienced
- Understanding of cultural trauma-informed care and wise practices
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills
- Experience organizing and planning programming with a provincial scope.
- A willingness to work flexible hours as needed to provide ongoing support and services to community members. This position will include evening and weekend hours.
- Must be dependable, able to respond to management direction and improve performance through management feedback.
- Experience with conflict resolution and the capacity to mitigate difficult situations.
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to work with mínimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and an ability to follow through on assigned duties independently with strict deadlines.
- Must be physically fit able to lift 50lbs and able to carry out land-based programming.
- Knowledge of Not-For Profit Organizations
- Ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of current youth related trends and influencers and proficient in media platforms
- Working knowledge of MS Office Software, internet, and general office equipment.
- Ability to travel.
- Reliable vehicle, appropriate vehicle insurance coverage with minimum 2 million liability coverage, valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract.
- Current, valid vulnerable sector criminal records check. Valid 1st Aid/CPR.
