**JOB** SUMMARY**: The **Activity Assistant**Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Activity Supervisor.
The purpose of the Activity Assistant position is to assist the Activity Supervisor with Programs and Resident Services, Students in placement, Volunteer Services, Religious and Spiritual Services, Family Council and Residents Council. The employee will assist in administrative and operational services to the Activity Department.

**BASIC QUALIFICATIONS**:
- A post-secondary diploma/degree in Recreation/Leisure, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology **OR** other related field from a community college or university
- One years’ experience in long-term care, with understanding of Ministry of Health regulations and legislation
- Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License (Class F is preferred and recommended)

**Activity Assistant**
**REPORTING RELATIONSHIP**:
Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Activity Supervisor.
**PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION**:
The purpose of the Activity Assistant position is to assist the Activity Supervisor with Programs and Resident Services, Students in placement, Volunteer Services, Religious and Spiritual Services, Family Council and Residents Council. The employee will assist in administrative and operational services to the Activity Department.
**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Technical Functions**:
- Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of programs in the home including but not limited to 1:1, small groups and special events that meet the social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual needs of the residents.
- Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating new and/or modified programs according to resident needs.
- Assist in organizing and facilitating community outings according to resident needs.
- Actively and effectively facilitate programs in the home during days, evening, and weekend from which the residents may select their interests and capabilities.
- Assist in completing resident assessments and establish goals and interventions based on the residents’ identified needs and problems.
- Assist in completing documentation related to programming including but not limited to assessments, participation, progress notes, care plans and quarterly reviews within the MDS RAI program.
- Support and effectively utilize volunteer resources in the provision of programs assisting in volunteer services and acting as liaison with community volunteer organizations.
- Support Pastoral Care Services including spiritual and religious programs, memorial services, and palliative care by responding to the religious needs and interests of the residents.
- Appropriately utilize and assist in maintaining department supplies and resources.
- Participate in the homes Continuous Quality Improvement Program including but not limited to the completion of audits and ongoing program evaluations.
- Be aware of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System
**Communications Functions**:
- Ensure effective communication with all residents, family members, staff, and volunteers.
