**Summary**

Reporting to the Manager, Health & Safety, the Health & Safety Coordinator supports all levels of the organization in the effective functioning of Budget’s Health & Safety program. The Health & Safety Coordinator will work alongside employees to foster and support an effective and proactive safety culture of internal responsibility that focuses on incident prevention, regulatory compliance and accountability for employee health and safety at all levels.

**Responsibilities**:

- Develop and review on a regular basis all Environmental, Health & Safety policies and documentation.
- Identify potential workplace hazards, unsafe equipment, work practices, and working conditions, and mitigate hazardous conditions at the division.
- Support the company to maintain their COR accreditation through ongoing audits and maintenance of the program.
- Interpret applicable codes, standards, guidelines and government legislation specific to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, Workplace Safety & Insurance Board, and Labour Relations Act
- Assisting with incident/accident investigations to identify root causes, trends, prevention strategies.
- Perform job site safety compliance inspections including hazard analysis, safe work procedures, written reports and recommendations.
- Support the Joint Health and Safety Committee program activities for training, communications, workplace inspections and monthly meetings.
- Support the Project Estimation group with safety documentation for bid submittals
- Provide advice and counsel to management and other employee groups on a broad range of occupational safety issues and decisions.
- Research, plan, organize and conduct training programs/seminars for supervisors and field employees, with regard to WHMIS, Fall Protection, Orientation, Personal Protection Equipment, CPR/First Aid, industry specific related issues, etc.
- Maintain up-to-date training records for all employees.

**Qualification/Education**
- Preferred completion of a post-secondary diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- 3-years’ experience with safety management systems and process safety management implementation, preferably in the construction or demolition.
- Preference for experience in environmental safety.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

**Preffered Skills**
- Thorough knowledge of all applicable Federal and Provincial legislation regarding Occupational Health and Safety plus any other relevant laws and regulations.
- Effective time management, organizational and problem-solving skills including an understanding or accident prevention.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively transfer knowledge to a diverse group of learners.
- Must be able to work independently and initiate new ideas to challenge the status quo.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Must be able to coach, facilitate and influence cultural and behavioural change in the workplace regarding safety.
- Demonstrated the capacity to work in a team, provide situational leadership and communicate effectively both in formal and informal settings.
- Embraces the Budget Core Values to create a safe and friendly work environment.
- This position will require at least 50% travel time being on jobsites or attending off site meetings. Consequently, a G License is required for this position.
