Urgent Hiring: General Manager

**Responsibilities**:
- Administer, coordinate and direct all activities of the residence, including the management of
human, physical and financial resources.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality care for residents and resident satisfaction.
- Maintain confidentiality of all financial, personnel and resident data.
- Be knowledgeable of and practice residence's fire and safety programs
- Manage residence in accordance with legislative requirements.
- Develop, implement and update policies and procedures for all departments of the residence to ensure a high level of care for residents and an effective and satisfying operating environment for employees.
- Provide leadership and motivation to the staff for the achievement of the residence's objectives.
- May develop long range plans for the residence in conjunction with the needs of the residents, the needs of the staff, the area in which the residence is located and health care planning agencies.
- Establish or facilitate new services with the approval of the General Manager.
- Ensure maintenance of accurate records of residents, personnel, and the operations in order to provide regular reports to the General Manager on the activities, needs and problems of the residence.
- Complete month-end accounting reports and submit them to the Head Office.
- Liaise and consult with inspectors and professionals in relation to the operation of the residence.
- Undertake all other responsibilities delegated by the General Manager.
**Job Description - Staff Supervision**:
○ Be knowledgeable of job responsibilities and descriptions of all staff.
○ Provide supervision and direction for all office and management staff.
○ Assess and monitor staffing needs.
○ Select, hire and as necessary, terminate employees.
○ Conduct performance appraisals and evaluations of employees.
○ Ensure that Registered Staff members are current in their registration with the College of
Nurses of Ontario.
○ Provide orientation, instructions, supervision and on-going in-service training of all
employees.
○ Develop in-service education program commensurate with the needs of the residence.
○ Prepare agenda for general staff meetings with input from personnel.
○ Monitor adherence to fire and safety procedures in the residence. Ensure continued
participation of all staff in fire drills and safety measures.

- Ensure that assignments and work duties are divided fairly between staff and shifts.
- Handle all employee relations for both unionized and non-unionized staff.

- Ensure residence is adequately staffed to ensure approved level of service.
**Job Description - Resident Care**:
- Develop and maintain standards governing nursing and resident care.
- Carry out surveillance of resident care and the residents' general physical and emotional well-being - to be done discreetly so as to encourage a feeling of independence and privacy in the residents.
- Notify the resident's family of any areas of concern.
**Job Description - Housekeeping / Laundry / Environmental**:
- Develop and maintain standards governing sanitation, safety and housekeeping.
- Ensure that resident' rooms, and all areas of the residence, both interior and exterior are clean, safe, attractive, comfortable and promote a high quality of living for the residents.
- Ensure that all electrical and mechanical effects are safe and maintained in good repair.
- Ensure that there are adequate supplies and storage. Order supplies as required.
- Complete a daily check of the residence for:
○ Repairs needed
○ Cleanliness
○ Safety
○ Attractiveness and comfort of setting
**Job Description - Dietary**:
- Develop and maintain standards governing food preparation and service.
- Ensure that food preparation complies with standards as per Public Health and as presented in Canada's Food Guide, and that it is tasteful and attractive.
- Ensure that the kitchen and dining room are maintained in a clean, sanitary and safe condition.
- Ensure that the likes, dislikes and special dietary needs of the residents are met.
**Job Description: Risk Management and General Safety**
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promotion of Risk Management programs and/or policies; adherence to safety rules and regulations.
- Practices safety procedures at all times including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire safety procedures including extinguishers (as applicable), SDSs (Safety Data Sheets) and Lockout Tagout procedures.
- Reports all accidents/incidents immediately.
- Reports all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
