Underwriter (12 Months Contract)

Purpose of role

**Job Description**:
Key Responsibilities
- Efficiently document the applicant file. Code and enter data from received medical reports to the MIB information system, as appropriate.
- Completion of medical training provided by a senior team member.
- Additional accountabilities may be added to the role
- Attend industry functions and training seminars in order to stay current with industry trends.

Key Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of underwriting theory, principles, methods, systems, processes and standards attained from Part One of the Academy of Life Underwriting program and underwriting experience under the mentorship of the Chief Underwriter.
- Consultation and communication skills to make consistent and appropriate underwriting decisions within Foresters policies and standards.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and a proven ability to effectively work in partnership with distribution partners is essential.
- Capable of making sound, logical decisions quickly and able to negotiate.
- Able to work well independently while also being able to interact effectively with other members of a team.
- Must be well organized, able to work within tight turn-around times, and capable of quickly adapting to change.
- Knowledge of the Foresters purpose, goals and objectives to ensure compliance of decisions with Foresters policies and standards.
- Knowledge of medical terminology would be an asset.
- Completed LOMA courses and will be pursuing more in the next 12 months.
- Willingness and commitment to work extra hours when required.
