Job Description Summary

The Digital Media Lab Assistant staffs the Media Lab and the Video Production Studio to create a positive customer support experience and build relationships with Penn students, faculty, and staff of varying levels of technical expertise, providing high-quality front-line, one-on-one support & training in image and video editing, publication layout, the use of A/V equipment (video/still cameras, audio recorders, projectors, etc.), printing, scanning, and other technologies. Under supervision of the manager of the Media Lab and the Video Recording Studio, the assistant greets and assists/trains lab users one-on-one; helps with technical issues in conversion of video, audio and other file formats, scanning, poster printing, and video-editing; helps users to borrow, use and return A/V equipment; trains student-workers; prepares and presents hands-on training workshops on multimedia hardware/software; provides both on-demand and appointment-based technical assistance; and completes media projects that could include print and graphic design, photography/videography, podcasting, and audio/video editing.

Work may take place in the media lab, recording studio, podcast booth, study room, and classrooms in or outside of Van Pelt Dietrich Library Center. When necessary, work may take place during extended hours and on weekends. This position requires an on-campus presence and, with the exception of online workshops/consultations, may not be performed remotely.

**Job Description**:
Job Responsibilities- Provides training, support and information on best practices to individual users or small groups for hardware and software in the lab and recording studio walk-in and by appointment- Assists patrons with borrowing, using and returning items from equipment loan system- Tracks lab and recording studio usage and technical problems related to lab/studio operations, and collaborates with Vitale Digital Media Lab Coordinator and Library IT department to resolve issues- Develops materials, prepares and teaches hands-on training workshops- Compiles, edits, and produces multimedia projects to support mission of Weigle Information Commons- Trains media lab/studio student workers

**Qualifications**:
- Vocational/ Technical School and 2 years to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.- Bachelor’s degree and 2 to 3 years of experience preferred.- Strong familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Premiere, and Illustrator), and Mac OS.- Strong written/verbal communication & customer service skills and ability to work and communicate with users of varying levels of expertise.- Ability to work both with autonomy and as a member of a team.- Ability to troubleshoot unfamiliar technical (hardware and software) problems without direct supervision; and ability to manage multiple projects over time.- Experience in teaching/tutoring, good graphic design skills and familiarity with Windows Operating system preferred.- Must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.
