St. Michaels University School’s (SMUS) External Programs Department offers an array of educational enrichment programs for all students. During holiday periods (winter, spring, summer breaks), the programs provide a learning experience for students aged 5-16 that emphasize skill development, cooperation, participation, and fun.

**The Position**:
Every summer, SMUS delivers exceptional overnight camps designed for youth aged 13-16. Our camps include programs in leadership, engineering, game development, ethical hacking, music and sports.

Reporting to the Director of External Programs, the Summer Boarding Coordinator is primarily responsible for the wellbeing of all summer borders and creating a safe, inclusive, organized and culturally sensitive environment. The Boarding Coordinator will be responsible for implementing boarding policies and procedures, supervising House Parents and Student Assistants and ensuring the smooth operation of the boarding house. This position is responsible for the allocation of room assignments, meals, laundry and housekeeping. We are looking for a vibrant, dedicated and capable member of our summer management team who has the initiative, empathy, and professional and fun demeanor to provide a memorable experience for our summer boarding guests. 

**Dates of Work**:
June 2 - Aug 18, 2025: 35 hours per week

**Responsibilities include**:

- Prioritize the welfare, health, and safety of boarding students above all other duties.
- Create a warm, positive and safe environment for boarders by dealing with and providing timely responses to day-to-day needs. 
- Meet deadlines, demonstrate attention to detail and be highly organized to support the daily operational aspects of the boarding house.
- Use professional judgment to solve problems or escalate issues when there are no clear methods or procedures in place for doing so. 
- Prepare rooming allocations according to gender, age, nationality, and other factors. 
- Manage dormitory keys and swipe cards, including lost items that need to be replaced.
- Maintain an accurate record of all medications.
- Communicate with Food Services on meal numbers and special requirements and dietary needs. 
- Ensure that rooms are properly prepared each week with the help of Student Assistants.
- Ensure that laundry and cleaning is scheduled.
- Ensure that custodial and maintenance requirements are communicated to the respective departments and responded to appropriately.
- Prepare all necessary documents and data relative to boarding, including check-in sheets, departures checklists, allergy lists, and birthday lists.
- Prepare and post signage in Boarding houses.
- Coordinate airport pickup and drop-offs with the Transportation Coordinator.
- Supervise Houseparents and maintain the schedule for supervision, and on-call shifts.
- Fill in when Houseparents are unavailable.
- Manage the deposits and withdrawals of money or valuables from the safe. 
- Supervise students who are ill and who cannot go to class for some reason.
- Manage student discipline, house rules, and behavioral expectations.
- Implement the Covid-19 Safety Plan protocols if students are ill.
- Ensure there is an accurate record of accidents and incidents and provide follow-up as needed.
- Set up the boarding office with supplies.
- Completed or enrolled in relevant post-secondary education such as Business, Recreation, or Education.
- At least 1 year of related experience working in a boarding environment. 
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and schedule and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work cooperatively and develop positive working relationships with students.
- Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to request and convey information in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Experience working with youth in a mentoring or supervisory role
- Must have excellent communication skills and be collaborative and team-oriented.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite word processing software, with experience creating and updating spreadsheets and database management
- Basic First Aid training would be an asset

**Pay Range**:
Hourly pay range: $25.68 - $30.21

**Criminal Record Check**:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
