We are looking for a Grounds Maintenance employee at our Walker Niagara Landfill location.

**Job Duties**
- Picking litter in and around the site
- Inspecting and maintaining site signage
- Snow removal and de-icing activities
- Sweeping

In addition, the successful applicant will also be required to train and become efficient in “Supplemental Duties” to the Niagara Landfill Unit that may include operations of landfill equipment to supplement the Niagara Landfill Unit’s workforce when needed and as required.

**Work Schedules**:

- This position may require extended working hours on Saturdays that are most proximal to a Statutory Holiday.
- This position may require extended working hours on Saturdays when needed dependent on site and/or weather conditions.
- Hours of work maybe extended when operating equipment, but will not exceed 60 hours per week.
- This position may require work on Saturdays, on a rotating basis.

**Assessment and Training Period**
- The Company has the right to assess performance within thirty (30) working days of an employee transferring into a new position. If they are not performing up to the specified standards, the Company may send them back to their previous position (Per section 10.06 k of the CBA).
- Assessment and training includes activities such as: reading operations and training manuals, job shadowing, physical on the job training written knowledge verification tests and demonstration of working knowledge.
- The Company commits to communicate with the Union throughout the training period to provide updates. Based on those discussions and progress made by the employee, the Company may consider providing an additional abbreviated training period, if warranted.

**Equipment Used**:

- Landfill Compactor equipment and support tools.
- Landfill Tipper equipment and support tools.

**Working Environment**:

- Exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, weather conditions and other sensory attributes will be experienced.
- Work regularly requires close contact with waste materials that may not be aesthetically pleasing.
- Level of noise from equipment or other site features at any given time is moderate.

**Physical Effort**:

- This position requires longer periods of standing, bending and walking.
- When operating equipment this position would require long periods of sitting at the controls of large landfill equipment.

**Mental Concentration**:

- Perform duties without close supervision while continually operating in concert with the landfill unit team.
- Ability to take direction from the Ground Maintenance Lead Hand and communicate effectively during any given day’s operating conditions.
- When operating equipment:

- The ability to take direction from lead compactor operators, lead hand and communicate effectively during any given day’s operating conditions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and deal tactfully with customers (Truck Drivers).
