Reporting to the Manager of Compensation & Benefits, the Payroll Specialist is accountable for a range of complex payroll activities, including using our HRIS computerized system Workday.
The Payroll Specialist will work along side the Payroll Analyst as an integral member of the Capital Automotive Team - they are responsible for assisting with all payroll activities for our Canadian and USA operations.
**Responsibilities**:
- Prepare, verify, process, balance and audit semi-monthly payrolls for salaried, hourly, flat rate and commission employees in accordance with provincial and federal legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Calculate and process allowances, retroactive pay, vacation pay, overtime and deductions such as garnishments, and other pay related transactions.
- Responsible for running the assigned payrolls by following standard operating procedures.
- Maintains complete, accurate and timely records based on real time requests.
- Maintains complete and accurate notes as well as processing instructions.
- Utilize all internal tools & defined processes to ensure optimal productivity, service excellence and make recommendations for best practices.
- Process off-cycle payments.
- Complete Record of Employments
- Provide critical and accurate statutory information to clients in the payroll area, such as tax filing. Use the various knowledge bases, resource materials and appropriate websites to locate answers and solutions for issues.
- Provide feedback and suggestions on products, issues, processes, and procedures to enhance efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 2 years Canadian payroll processing experience; US payroll processing experience is an asset.
- Minimum 3-5 years client service experience.
- Previous experience working in a fast-paced Administrative role
- Advanced Internet and MS Office Skills (Word/Excel) required.
- Experience using Workday is an asset but not required.
- Has an ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Has the ability to work with a high degree of discretion and complete confidentiality.
- Learns new tasks quickly.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills with the ability to translate analytical findings into actionable solutions/processes.
- Experience processing payroll for Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and California is an asset.
**Education**:
- Post-secondary education preferred, or equivalent experience in administration/payroll/HR/accounting.
