**Position Description**
The Kenora Chiefs Advisory is currently seeking Child and Youth Workers. Binesi Waziswan Healing and Treatment Services is a short-term live-in treatment program that provides an opportunity for youth stepping up from community-based support or stepping down from an inpatient unit, to engage in holistic, land-based, clinical wraparound services in a supportive environment. Youth participants will undergo ongoing assessment and observation, crisis intervention, and wrap around bi-cultural services aimed at long-term healing and recovery. We require an enthusiastic, supportive and flexible individuals who work well in a team environment and are motivated to support youth on their healing journey
Position Title: Child and Youth Worker
Department: Healing and Treatment Services
**Salary**: $ 28.85 Per Hour
Term: Full time
Location: 240 Veterans Drive, 3rd Floor, Kenora, Ontario
Reports to: Operational Manager--Binesi Waziswan Healing and Treatment Services
**Summary of Duties**
Ø Provide support and guidance to youth participants who are experiencing mental health issues that have impacted their mental, emotional, spiritual and/or physical wellbeing
Ø Support youth in their day-to-day participation in the program, creating opportunities for goal development and achievement
Ø Facilitate land-based activities including (but not limited to) fishing, hiking, canoeing, medicine picking, animal-assisted programming, etc
Ø Support the Bi-Cultural Counsellors and Care Coordinators with implementing the 7 Grandfather Teachings curriculum
Ø Carry out daily home upkeep, alongside youth participants, teaching them healthy habits and life skills;
Ø Daily logging of observations of the participants’ wellbeing status, from a holistic lens
Ø Build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, youth and service providers both from KCA and external organizations
Ø Ability to effectively respond to crisis situations, consulting Management as needed
Ø Facilitate access to Anishinaabe knowledge, traditions and cultural beliefs in the healing process, where appropriate
Ø Participate in training and ongoing professional development to enhance your knowledge of supporting young people in their healing journey
**Qualifications**
Ø Experience working with youth in one-to-one or group settings
Ø Strong ability to develop rapport and trusting relationships with youth and families
Ø Knowledge and/or willingness to learn about Anishinaabe culture, language and practices
Ø Having embarked on one’s own journey towards wellness, with the ability to act as a positive role model for youth
Ø Experience working in a youth residential setting, is an asset
Ø Experience facilitating activities and programs, including cultural and land-based programming, is an asset
Ø Excellent skills in the following areas: interpersonal, computer, organization, networking, presentation and communication (written and oral)
**Position Requirements**
