Working closely with the other members of the Finance team across multi-lines of business, the Tax Manager will be part of the transformative changes, provide process improvement recommendations aim to automate tax function, assist in implementing a new ERP system, as the business continues to grow. This position will be located at our Head Office in Markham, Ontario and will have flexibility for both remote and in-office work based on our hybrid work model. **Accountabilities** - Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly tax provisions for financial statement under IFRS and various tax reconciliations. - Ensure timely completion and compliance of Company’s tax related filings including the completion of all federal and provincial income tax returns, information returns, tax elections and all related analysis and support (e.g. T2, T106, T1134, T5013, NR4, T4A-NR etc.) - Manage commodity tax (GST/PST/QST) filings and reconciliations of monthly, quarterly, and annual sale tax returns,including NRRP rebate for Extendicare group of companies and Assist managed home clients. - Preparation of annual budget and forecasting of cash taxes. - Responsible for the calculation and timely payment of tax instalments and final taxes. - Assist with tax audits, including preparation of support and responding to tax audit queries. - Preform research, analysis, and documentation in tax memos to support filing positions, as well as resolution of audit issues. - Assist with acquisitions and other transactions, including identifying risks and tax implications, conducting due diligence and implementation of tax structure. - Establish and maintain strong controls and procedures to identify and manage all tax issues. - Proactively identify planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies, and minimization of tax risks, including working with senior management to implement and monitor the strategies. - Support the Finance team and business unit operations with respect to tax queries, research, analysis, and recommendation. - Identify and implement process efficiencies to streamline tax function. - Support Director of Tax on implementing a new ERP system, including system testing, data conversion, creating new system reports and implementation. - Perform other projects as assigned. **Qualifications and Experience** - Professional Accounting Designation (CPA or equivalent designation) and 5 - 8 years practical taxation experience required. - Completion of or working towards the CICA in-depth taxation course. - Experience in dealing with CRA tax audits. - Experience in sales tax returns filings. - Familiar with GST/HST rules relating to healthcare exempt and zero-rated supplies and public services bodies rebate. - Strong knowledge of IFRS required. - Experience with TaxPrep software and advance accounting system (e.g. Workday). - Excellent analytical skills, strong motivation, and ability to work independently. - Strong problem-solving skills and organization skills and pays close attention to details. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills. - Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced deadline oriented environment. - Proficient in Microsoft Excel - Knowledge of the real estate and/or healthcare industry is an asset. - Ability to work independently. - Enthusiasm for change - High standard of integrity. - Positive attitude with a "can do" approach to customer service. **What Extendicare has to offer**: At Extendicare, we believe that working as a team creates an environment that allows us to reach our potential.
