**Job Overview**
**Dragonfly Counselling & Support Centre**(DCSC) is a charity organization committed to creating a region free from sexual violence. We do this by providing specialized intervention, counselling and preventative education to individuals, families, and communities in North Central East Alberta.

The **Indigenous Educator** is responsible for delivering culturally responsive anti-violence education programs within First Nations, Métis Settlements, and rural communities. This frontline role focuses on facilitating workshops and presentations that are grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems, values, and traditions while incorporating evidence-based practices in violence prevention and education. The Indigenous Educator will work closely with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community partners, and service providers to ensure programming is culturally safe, relevant, and responsive to the unique needs of each community. The Indigenous Educator will support community-led approaches to violence prevention, healing, and empowerment.

This position operates from an office location in Bonnyville, providing significant outreach communities in Northeast/Central Alberta (i.e., Athabasca, Lac La Biche, Cold Lake, St Paul) and other rural and/or remote locations including Métis Settlements and First Nations.

This is a one-year position from March 15, 2025, to March 31, 2026, with the potential for renewal based on funding availability.

**Responsibilities**
- Provide day to day support to the DCSC’s prevention, education and outreach efforts;
- Learn and deliver core DCSC school educational programs, workshops, and trainings;
- Plan and prepare lessons for diverse learners on a variety of topics related to sexual violence and sexual violence prevention;
- Comfortably presenting on topics including private parts, okay/not okay touches, consent, sexual abuse/assault, personal boundaries, healthy sexuality, healthy relationships;
- Assist in designing, editing, revising and updating education department materials (i.e., brochures, manuals, etc.);
- Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous partners to ensure programming reflects cultural teachings and values.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with people of the First Nations & Métis Settlements, regional leaders, Elders, rural professionals and partners, government agencies and stakeholder representatives.
- Advance and promote DCSC programs and services at agency and community events and meetings;
- Champion a two-eyed seeing approach that integrates Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives for holistic community understanding.
- Maintain current and accurate records and documentation of all activities;
- Assist in evaluating programs, collecting, and reporting program statistics;
- Build professional networks by serving on agency and community coalitions as a representative of DCSC;
- Provide support and crisis intervention to people disclosing sexual violence; and,
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

**Requirements**:

- Undergraduate degree in Human Services/Education/Indigenous Studies or related field (equivalencies may be considered);
- Is familiar with the issue of sexual violence, Indigenous Culture, and with anti-oppressive approaches to violence prevention and client support;
- Has an understanding of, and commitment to, decolonization, reconciliation, and anti-oppressive education frameworks.
- Is adaptable, organized, and self-directed;
- Is able to work and develop relationships with a wide range of people, both within and outside of the organization;
- Is comfortable working collaboratively with other staff and organizations.
- Knowledge of community resources;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and changing environment;
- An understanding of women’s issues, social justice advocacy, diversity and anti-oppressive practice an asset; and,
- Criminal Records check, Child Intervention Record check, valid Alberta Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
