**Position Title: El’dad Direct Support Worker**

**Position Details**
- Casual, part-time, full-time
- Weekdays, weekends
- Daytime, evenings, overnights
- Shift lengths between 3-8 hours
- Hourly wage between $16.65-$20.65
- There will be a three-month probationary period based on accumulated FTE.

**About Us**

Initiatives for Just Communities (IJC) is a non-profit, charitable organization that operates four community justice programs: El'dad Ranch, Touchstone, Open Circle, and CoSA. These programs support people with intellectual disabilities, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and those who are currently, or have been previously, incarcerated. IJC is committed to restorative justice practices, which honour the community and foster a sense of belonging.

**The Position**

El’dad Direct Support Workers work alongside adults with intellectual disabilities to support them in their daily life. Depending on the program, the support will vary: assisting with cooking and cleaning, working alongside individuals on community jobs, attending appointments, or joining in community event, and much more. Direct support workers provide supports to adults with intellectual disabilities to reach their goals and live a fulfilling life.

**What you will do**
- Support participants in developing their life skills and achieving personal goals
- Build a positive relationship with program participants
- Assist participants to develop and maintain connections in the community
- Ensure the health and safety of participants
- Complete required written documentation, including shift reports and incident reports
- Work together and communicate with the program team
- Some homes in residential program require perineal/personal care

**Required Qualifications**
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to meet operational expectations while providing effective service.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate in a clear and effective manner.
- Excellent written communication skills with the ability to draft correspondence in a clear and effective manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to make independent decisions within company’s framework
- Basic level computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Strong desire to work with people living with intellectual disabilities

**Assets**
- Class 5 Driver’s License and satisfactory Driver’s Abstract - in some programs this is a requirement
- Experience or education working in the social services field

**Conditions of Employment**
- The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check
