The mission of the Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation is to provide programs and services that benefit children, youth and families requiring our assistance.

We are seeking a skilled and organized individual for our Communications Coordinator Internship Position. The purpose of this position is to create and execute effective communications on a variety of levels such as program promotion, program launches, funding campaigns,

awareness campaigns, and special events. The skill of effective communicator is a much sought after skill. The skills set that will be developed in this position are both desirable and easily transferred to any business, private or corporate industry. The Communications Coordinator will have an integral role in bringing community awareness to the Sudbury Manitoulin Children’s Foundation. The main duties will include event planning, event management, and all event communications with potential donors, event sponsors, event venues, press and the public. Reporting to the Executive Director and supporting the Program Director with social media events planning regarding events. Additional responsibilities of this position include cultivating relationships with donors and securing philanthropic commitments from individuals, local businesses, and corporations. Assistance with the Festival of Lights and Charity Bingo. Create and circulate any event volunteer recruitment job descriptions. Social media planning around all events and major charity news. Tight deadlines, responsible for organizing/prioritizing duties, excellent communication skills required.

The key duties/responsibilities the intern will undertake during this placement include:

- researching and evaluating the targeted audience's perception of the SMCF;
- initiating and planning Planned Giving and Monthly Donor campaigns: defining goals; analyzing problems and opportunities. Arranging public speaking engagements, presentation, press conferences and social media interviews around these campaigns.
- organizing the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, public relation photographs and social media campaigns;
- writing and editing press releases, in-house newsletters, speeches, blogs, e-newsletters
- Keeping all social media updates and to keep the website current
- Work with the fundraising committee and staff for all communications needed to promote any event that will be staged during their internship.
- Assist Program Director and Executive Director with any communication needed for programs delivery or promotion.
