Working under the direction of the Senior Counsellor, the Support Worker is responsible for providing a broad spectrum of effective and culturally appropriate healing to men and their families. The Support Worker is expected to have the ability and skills to work with constituent who may be oppositional and/or volatile, while at all times maintaining composure and behave in a professional and dignified manner. The Support Worker shall ensure that all activities are undertaken in a manner that is consistent with, and complementary to, the Vision Statement, the Principles and Values and the policies and procedures of the Aboriginal Health & Wellness Centre.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Formulates and delivers support, treatment and healing strategies, based upon the individual beliefs and desires of the constituent, and including the provision of ongoing Worker input and monitoring of progress, which utilizes an appropriate combination of traditional methods and values partnered with access to contemporary physical, emotional and psychological services.
- Maintains an awareness of agencies, programs and supports providing community and culturally based health, wellness and lifestyle supports to members of the Aboriginal community, for the purpose of promoting and providing appropriate constituent referrals in order to ensure an effective integration of programs so that a comprehensive service delivery model can be developed on an individual constituent basis.
- Facilitates, and provides support to, individual and group activities such as personal counseling sessions, Sharing Circles, Sweats and Retreats which are designed to provide a base of personal knowledge and reference to constituents through individual and shared interactions and discussions.
- Maintains a thorough and accurate record of all constituent contacts, personal visits and appointments, agency referrals and document progress towards achieving the goal(s) and objective(s) established collaboratively with each constituent.
- Provides information regarding the mandate of the Men’s Healthy Living Program, and associated services in support of that mandate, and other Centre programs.
- Acts as an advocate with other agencies, organizations and individuals for the purpose of developing self-sufficiency and independence on behalf of constituents.
- Provides security for, and assists in the maintenance of, the Program’s filing system in accordance with established standards of security and confidentiality.
- Adheres to the definition of, and reporting procedures for, suspected instances of child abuse as set forth in the Child and Family Services Act.
- Other related duties that may be assigned.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Degree/Diploma in Social Work or Social Sciences, or a combination of education and direct experience as deemed equivalent by the Centre.
- Previous practical experience in working within an Indigenous-based community services providing physical, emotional, spiritual and social support to men and families.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including a demonstrated proficiency in conducting individual / group counseling, leading group presentations and group facilitations and effectively dealing with situations of conflict and stress.
- Practical experience in the operation of a personal computer, including the use of MS Office.
- Possess a current valid Driver’s License and a suitable vehicle for work-related transportation.
- Demonstrated experience and ability to perform independent fieldwork with primary emphasis on the development and maintenance of effective direct constituent relations and maintaining accurate case records.
- Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently within a fast-paced, high stress environment.
- Ability to communicate in an Aboriginal language(s) would be a definite asset.
- Demonstrated capacity to function effectively in a working team environment.

Pay: From $21.63 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
