Psychiatric Mental Health Assistant

**Job Description**:
In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values, and strategic directions of Vancouver Island Health Authority (island Health)patient & staffsafety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA and as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Under the general supervision of a senior position such as an Occupational Therapist, Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse, the Psychiatric Mental Health Assistant assists with the provision of activation and socialization services for mental health patients in the acute care or tertiary care setting, provides personal care assistance, and supports services to the patient/client and interdisciplinary team.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
Grade 10 and completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant Program, plus two (2) years' recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
**Skills And Abilities**:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to teach.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment
