**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Director, Member Engagement, the Associate Director, Member and Community Events is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing the planning, logistics, and execution of high-quality member and community events, including Chapter events, and ensuring events incorporate CPABC’s strategic objectives for engaging with members and their communities. The position also leads ongoing event improvement activities, such as assessing feedback trends, exploring new approaches and sponsorship opportunities, and providing leadership and direction to staff and volunteers.

In addition, the Associate Director will actively contribute to departmental strategic and operational planning and departmental management, while advocating for member engagement priorities with other CPABC departments.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Event Engagement and Enhancement**
- Review past events, analyze post-event feedback/data, and stay informed about industry trends, to uncover opportunities to improve event strategies and optimize attendee experience;
- Proactively engage with other departments to raise awareness of CPABC member and community events, including Chapter activities, and develop an understanding of priorities that could involve further collaboration.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of event-related resources, templates and polices, and share best practices for successful events with CPABC departments and volunteers.
- Lead sponsorship activities on behalf of the organization and department where appropriate.
- Establish and foster relationships with associations from other industries/professions to understand best practices and identify opportunities for collaboration and value-add for members.
- Oversee the effectiveness and ongoing improvement of the Chapter Program:

- Implement and maintain processes and best practices for volunteer-hosted events.
- Oversee development and maintenance of resources (policies, guidelines and templates).
- Support Chapters volunteers with their forecast and spending activities (e.g. lead the annual forecast process, regularly review variances and utilization of surplus budget, etc.).
- Support Chapters to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, identifying areas of risk for CPABC and/or volunteers that require additional training and direction.

**Event Planning and Delivery**
- Oversee the strategic planning of member and community events, including the coordination and execution of Chapter events, ensuring all events are organized, impactful and aligned with CPABC’s objectives
- Design processes to allocate event-related tasks across team members, collaborating with other departments as needed to ensure events are effectively promoted, supported and resourced.
- Forecast events and resources required to support planned events, 9-12 months in advance.

**Volunteer Leadership and Engagement**
- Provide leadership and guidance to volunteers that host events on behalf of CPABC, including through training seminars and regular meetings, ensuring they are onboarded, trained, supported, and equipped to host successful events.
- Act as a key liaison between volunteers and CPABC, attending events to foster collaboration and recognizing volunteer efforts through regular and varied forms of appreciation.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with Chapter leaders and volunteers, and work with them individually to motivate, engage and ensure succession plans are in place.
- Oversee the recruitment of new volunteers to support Chapters and CPABC programs.
- Oversee hosting of a variety of member and community event types and attend and speak at events for members to learn about the value of volunteering for CPABC.
- Oversee the provision of hands-on support for regions with less active volunteers, including initiating meetings with existing and new volunteers to increase engagement.

**Team Leadership and Management**
- Provide direction, guidance and support to both manager and team members.
- Develop the annual budget, including event budgets and anticipated Chapter events and meetings.
- Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual reporting for CPABC Board and EMC.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

**Key Requirements**:
**Knowledge and Experience**
- Bachelor’s Degree or post-secondary qualification in a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in event planning, logistics, relationship development and management and general management, preferably in a leadership role.

**Demonstrated Skills and Abilities**
- Strong attention to detail, refined organizational and time management skills.
- Proven ability to prioritize competing requirements and deadlines under pressure.
