**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Director, Clinical Services, the Manager, Vaccine Preventable Disease, is responsible for making an impact on the health of Niagara residents by reducing incidence of vaccine preventable diseases, primarily through high vaccine coverage. The Manager’s core responsibilities involve planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the Vaccine Preventable Disease Program.

**Education**

  • Post-secondary degree in Nursing (B. Sc. N.).
  • Masters degree in any of the Health Sciences, Education or Administration.

**Knowledge**

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a health-related field, preferably in a clinical, public health, community health, or health care setting
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with supervision of staff
  • Current certificate of Competence for a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • In-depth knowledge of issues related to vaccine preventable diseases and communicable diseases as well as specific legislation relevant to medical/clinical procedures and practice (e.g., Consent to Treatment, Health Promotion and Protection Act, Child Care and Early Years Act 2014, and Immunization of School Pupil’s Act 1990)
  • High level of skill in information analysis and understanding of public health issues

**Responsibilities**

**_ Plans, implements, monitors and evaluates the delivery of services the delivery of the vaccine preventable disease programs, interventions, and initiatives in compliance with the Ontario Public Health Standards. (35% of time)_**:

  • Determines program direction, goals and objectives; establishes priorities utilizing evidence-based practice, available data and community needs assessments; and monitors and evaluates program and intervention outcomes.
  • Develops annual business plans that align with the Corporation's Business Plan, Niagara Region Public Health & Emergency Services strategic direction, and the Ontario Public Health Standards.
  • Makes business decisions based on an accurate understanding of program, intervention and population health data.
  • Determines opportunities for continuous quality improvement initiatives, ensuring resource availability.
  • Facilitates the uptake of evaluation results and continuous quality improvement recommendations.
  • Participates on internal and/or external committees and task forces, attending meetings to receive information, plan strategies and disseminate information to appropriate work groups.
  • Develops reports for the Director, Medical Officer of Health, and the Ministry Of Health, as required.
  • Develops and updates policies and procedures.
  • Initiates research opportunities and/or prepares funding proposals, where appropriate.
  • Provides the public with comprehensive, coordinated and efficient immunization services in a variety of different community settings, including health promotion information, individual. counselling and administration of publicly funded immunization(s) as required and/or recommended and as outlined by program policies, procedures and medical directives.
  • Provides information to the public related to vaccine preventable disease issues, responding to public concerns, writing and presenting reports related to the program mandate and responding to requests for information from the media.
