Manual Machinist/boring Mill Operator

The Machinist’s primary focus is to set up and operate several machines; including lathes, Vertical and Horizontal Boring Mill(s) and machine work pieces by performing the necessary steps according to engineered drawings. Machinists are required to have sufficient experience with the equipment used and measuring equipment to ensure work pieces adhere to tight tolerances. This position will also encompass responsibility for Quality activities at the Repair facility.

**Education, Skills and Experience**
- High School Diploma or equivalent GED
- Must have Machinist Trade Certification
- Experience with lathes, vertical and horizontal boring machines
- Must be familiar and able to work with very tight tolerances
- Must be able to read and understand written planning and follow verbal instructions
- Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines
- Reading and interpreting of blue prints
- Ability to assemble and disassemble pumps when required an asset
- Past experience with Pumps and Pump systems an asset

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Perform all duties of the position with safety as the first priority and in accordance with Westpower’s HSE Manual.
- Ensure that safety and other issues and suggestions are brought to the attention of the Manager
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and Vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Conduct quality inspections of all machined parts; including parts machined in-house and parts received by third party suppliers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Report on non-conformances to Westpower’s existing procedures.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
- Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Any other job related and support activity duties as required.

Pay: $38.00-$48.00 per hour
