**Second Shift Superintendent**:
The Second Shift Superintendent is accountable for all aspects of Vancouver Drydock operations during the second shift, ensuring that the project is making timely progressing with a high level of productivity and efficiency, while all health & safety regulations and ISO requirements are adhered to. This position reports to the Director, Operations but will take day to day guidance and direction from the current Second Shift Superintendent.
**Duties/Accountabilities**
- Oversees repair and refit activities performed on the second shift by monitoring shift turnover, visiting job sites to make sure trades and Trade Superintendents coordinate activities with each other, prioritizing jobs and tasks, supervising general trades, ensuring that a high level of productivity and efficiency is achieved, and that Union rules and regulations and SMC policies and procedures are followed.
- Regularly visits job sites and liaises with Safety Advisors working on the second shift to ensure that all health and safety rules, policies and procedures are followed. Ensures safety concerns are addressed by referring issues to the Safety department and the Manager, Vancouver Drydock, to prevent injuries, time loss and/or equipment damage.
- Communicates with customers to clarify the scope of work and provide status updates, ensuring that the work performed is in compliant with the contract and customer expectations.
- Liaises with regulatory bodies by requesting, conducting, and coordinating tests and inspections to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
- Assists sub-contractors by clarifying job details and providing them with any information required to complete the job.
- Clarifies the scope and location of work on vessels by preparing schematic drawings and making them available on-board, so that everyone involved in the project have a reference.
- Assists the 2nd Shift Superintendent & Human Resources department by dealing with second shift lay-offs, hiring, and disciplinary actions, to ensure appropriate staffing is maintained at all times.
- Works with the 2nd Shift Superintendent, Trade Supervisors and Project Managers to support the projects goals on second shift, ensure that manning levels are maintained within agreed costs requirements, priorities are completed as required, and timelines are met.
- Prepares purchase requisitions and procures materials, as required on the second shift. Discusses with Project managers and Trade Superintendents material requirements to ensure any additional cost is added to the billing.
- Handles administrative aspects of the position by reviewing, updating and preparing shift reports, to ensure continuity and completion of jobs, which may include preparing sketches, technical drawings and photos, ensuring that all documentation is complete and accurate.
- Ensures compliance with Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures at the Vancouver Drydock.
**Education and Experience**
- Completion of Grade 12 education, plus completion of a shipyard trade apprenticeship program or a Post-secondary technical certificate from a recognized institution in a related trade
- A minimum of 10 years experience in a supervisory position within the marine industry

- Knowledge of shipbuilding terminology, methods and procedures
