The Seabird Island Band is a multi-faceted First Nations Band that includes government, business, service, and nonprofit services. We work as an integrated team to improve the health, education, and economic opportunities for First Nations people to create thriving First Nations families and communities. **Position Summary**: The role of the Recovery Support Worker is to support clients in residence struggling with substance use issues possible to facilitate personal growth and relationship building, as well as other duties associated with the recovery home such as cooking, cleaning, charting, participating in group sessions, driving and shopping. - Seabird Island Band is committed to the health and safety of its employee's and community members. SIB has implemented measures to protect and prevent the spread of COVID-19. SIB is mandated under provincial health care standards that all employees provide proof of vaccination for COVID-19 unless otherwise deemed exempt under the Human Rights Code_ **Qualifications/Requirements**: - High School Diploma or GED. Education in related field an asset - Medication delivery training - on-site or through an accredited post-secondary institution - Food safe Level 1 - 2 years’ experience working with individuals with substance and/or drug abuse and aggressive behaviour - Ability to function independently within the framework of a team - Current First Aid min 8 hours and CPR level 2 with AED Certification - Demonstrate maturity and reliability at all times and be able to work under pressure - Ability to respond to crises when needed and report immediately - Experience working with First Nations is considered an asset - High professional and ethical standards with a commitment to the principles and values of the First Nations Communities - Knowledge and understanding of Stó:lō culture and language, or a willingness to learn - Organizational and time management skills - Empathetic, compassionate and patient - Successfully complete in-house medication administration course - Capacity to communicate and uphold clients rules, duties and regulation in a polite but assertive manner - Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills. - Excellent organizational and time management skills, must be able to efficiently and effectively organize many details in a time efficient manner - A valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required - Able to submit a clean Driver’s Abstract last 5 years - Satisfactory Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector - May be required to work evenings and weekends. **Primary Responsibilities**: - Building self-esteem by "living with"- doing things together, rather than "caring for" - Providing opportunities for new experiences****: - Encouraging individuals to make choices and decisions in all areas of their lives, and providing the opportunities to learn how to make decisions and problem solve - Building a relationship based on respect, and offer support, guidance and direction when appropriate - Facilitating any area in which someone may need support in order to achieve a fulfilling life eg, buying clothes, sending birthday cards, mending clothes - Encouraging, teaching and assisting with household, community and personal responsibilities such as shopping, cleaning, banking, medical appointments. and ensuring they are completed by the individual - Safely administer medications under the supervision (or direction) of the designated registered nurse - Supporting people in social situations to learn to feel comfortable and confident with others through appropriate interactions and build positive relationships - Understand and assist in developing appropriate family values - Attending staff meetings and contributing professionally - Covering assigned shifts or finding a suitable replacement, giving adequate notice and informing the team. - Respecting the workplace physical structure, keeping it clean, safe and secure for those we support - Being aware of and competent in dealing with individual medical needs eg. seizures, health concerns, allergies etc. - Attending regularly and consistently to personal care needs of clients such as bathing, hygiene, grooming etc. in a dignifying and respectful matter - Being responsible for each person's safety in all situations; ensuring medical attention is sought, notifying those concerned eg. fire, car accident, etc. - Correctly documenting personal spending, petty cash, groceries, etc. immediately after an item is purchased - Ensuring personnel files are kept updated (daily) including files, binders, boxes, etc. - Interacting respectfully and consistently with family, team and community agencies - Maintain all personal matters regarding individuals, their families and team members as confidential - Reporting to the Case Manager / House Peer Leader if you suspect any wrongdoing regarding an individual or the agency, at home or in the community, by fo
