**About the Library Technician Role**:
The Humber and University of Guelph-Humber Library is seeking a forward thinking, collaborative, and service-oriented Library Technician with an aptitude for learning new systems and software. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Library Technician will perform a variety of technical services duties, focusing on acquisitions, cataloguing,
and electronic resources usage statistics, and will provide overall support in accomplishing the goals of the Technical Services team. They also serve all students, faculty, and staff by providing research support services.
The Library Technician participates in the acquisition and processing of learning resources for collections; tracking the status of acquisitions; and in creating and updating catalogue records. The Library Technician will ensure the integrity and consistency of the library catalogue by following guidelines, strategies, and workflows to
review metadata ensuring high quality bibliographic information that enhances the discoverability of learning resources.

As a member of the Research Support team, the Library Technician delivers high-level customer service by answering questions and recommending resources in-person and virtually. This position requires a pro-active and well-organized individual, with highly developed oral and written communications skills, a high level of competence with

**Education**
**Experience/Skills**
- Experience performing duties such as reference, cataloguing, and acquisitions in a library in a public service environment is desired.
- Experience with the acquisition of print and electronic books as well as knowledge of trends, workflows, and best practices in the changing landscape of library acquisitions and cataloguing is desired.
- Proficient in the use of integrated library systems, e-book and video streaming platforms and library databases.
- Working knowledge of complex library information and reference functions.
- Digital fluency with competence with Microsoft software (O365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Developed time-management and organizational skills and demonstrated capability to develop research skills.
- A firm understanding of bibliographic description and metadata standards and practices (RDA, LC classification, LCSH, MARC21 bibliographic and authority formats) is desired.
- Demonstrated knowledge of acquisitions procedures and tools, including but not limited to Ex Libris/ProQuest Rialto content platform for Alma is desired.
- Familiarity with electronic resources usage statistics gathering including COUNTER 5 (Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources) and SUSHI (Standardized Usage Statistics Harvesting Initiative) is desired.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly with proven strategies to support learning of new technology.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills with ability to communicate policies with empathy, respect and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated initiative, good judgement, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Ability to work in an ever-changing environment, adapting to changes in responsibilities and duties, demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
