**TERM**: Full-time (1.0 FTE) - 1 year contract, with possibility of renewal

**SALARY**:From $75,000 - $85,000 annually. Will commensurate with skills and experience.

**CHEO RI has an immediate requirement for a Postdoctoral Fellow.**

The CHEO Research Institute is fully integrated within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, which comprises several research-intensive Departments supporting a vibrant research and educational environment with multiple strong foci in multiple health-related fields. Several health-related students and medical trainees complete portions of their education and training at CHEO.

The **Electronic Health Information Laboratory**(EHIL) was formed in 2004 at the CHEO Research Institute and is headed up by Dr. Khaled El Emam. EHIL conducts multi-disciplinary research to enable data sharing for secondary purposes and data-driven simulation. It is located at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute. Our research results get applied in practice relatively quickly, so we get rapid feedback from practice to continue improving our work.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**

Under the general supervision of Dr. Khaled El-Emam, the Postdoctoral Fellow will:

- Using machine learning and state-of-the-art deep learning techniques to model complex clinical datasets.
- Evaluate predictive clinical models under different decision-making scenarios.
- Simulate clinical prediction models for patient decision-making scenarios and clinical research scenarios

**QUALIFICATIONS, SKILL AND ABILITIES**
- A recent PhD in statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, engineering, epidemiology or a similar discipline.
- Good knowledge of statistical and machine learning modeling techniques and their evaluation
- Good knowledge of R and/or Python, and ideally PyTorch and/or Tensorflow;
- Previous work in developing and evaluating machine learning models;
- Previous work training different types of deep learning models / architectures would be a plus.
- Ability to set priorities with competing and shifting demands;
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new policies, procedures and requirements;
- Ability to be flexible with working hours to meet deadlines.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Possibility to work remotely or in a hybrid work model (remote and on-site).

**OTHER REQUIREMENTS**
- Eligible to work in Canada;
- Compliance with CHEO RI’s Universal COVID-19 Vaccination Policy; and
- Police Record Check.
